I took my daughter for her first dental exam today. She's three.
We are fairly new to the area, so I had never visited this particular clinic before. I chose it because it was on the list of dentists in my area that our insurance covers and they could get us in the soonest. When I scheduled the appointment, I made it clear that she was very little and had not ever been to a dentist before. They said they wanted her to watch me have my teeth cleaned and then they'd do her. I told them I didn't think this would work, but they insisted that's how they do it so I went along with them. When we got to the clinic, we waited over an hour and she was getting tired from waiting when they finally took us to the exam room. They wanted her to sit on the floor. I said "No I don't think she's gonna sit on the floor, and she's tired. Just do her exam and I'll reschedule mine." The doctor started chuckling and said it was amusing someone with a "chubby kid" was so afraid of germs...

I told him that I did not appreciate him calling her "chubby" that her doctor had never had a problem with her weight and it was none of his business. He then started arguing with me and I still had the paper "bib" thing around my neck because he'd put it there to do my exam. In the midst of the arguement, he jerked it off and told me to leave and there is a red mark on my neck from him jerking it off of me. I was so upset I had to sit in the parking lot 5 minutes shaking before I could drive home and while I was sitting there, one of the assistants came out and said "He's upset because you're in his parking spot" so I left. I've already reported him to my insurance company and told them not to pay because he didn't do anything for us. Who else can/should I report this to?

The American Dental Association and perhaps a consumer advocacy group in your area to investigate. Your local Better Business Bureau may be interested to know, as well.

Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Oh hell. Jennifer, take a picture of your mark, write everything down before you forget--not that you would--but get it in writing, call an attorney. Any attorney will see you for free, on the first visit, and also call the American Dental Association. Do not give up. Now, I'm really angry. If I can think of anything else, after I've calmed down, I'll let you know. Oh, yeah, and here's the drink of your choice. I'm having wine, but the cupboards are full, so take what you want.

To the tooth police--- The American Dental Association. Also the local Dept. of Health. Also, tell your family doctor, many times people new to the area will ask their doctor to recommend a dentist. Also, tell everyone you know so you can warn them of this creep of a dentist.

That was totally uncalled for. Report him to the American Dental Association. I work for dentists, and I will find out for you anyone else you can report him to. I'll leave it in your comment box. Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Your state should have a dental board to which you can report him. This kind of behavior is very unprofessional, and he needs a wake-up call.

Maybe the cops could charge him with assault since you had a mark.
