I saw the SNL skit, and I don't see what the problem with this type of jean is. Can someone tell me what, if anything, is wrong with "Mom Jeans"?

Like SNL said, mom jeans tell the world "I give up."

Well to be completely honest, it depends on how much you care about fit and fashion.

The "problem" with mom jeans is that albeit being very comfortable, they are very unflattering to the female figure.

The firs problem is the cut, when you have a high waisted jean, especially one that is above the natural waist, it is very unflattering on your rear end and if you have any tummy at all, creates a pouch.

The tapered leg is also a problem because if your anything above a size 4 a tapered leg is going to make you look huge on top, and tiny on bottom.

If the reason you like them is comfort, then I definitely see your point. They don't pinch your waist and are relatively roomy.

You could try a nice straight or wide leg jean, that comes up to your natural waist, that way you have the best of both worlds. It creates proportion and balances out your body, while being comfortable.

If on the other hand, the fashion or fit of clothes isn't a big deal, then don't worry about what everybody else thinks and sport you mom jeans proudly.

You should check out the Levi's store, they have all different types of fits and aren't too expensive.

"mom jeans" are a nickname given to almost all types of jeans worn by anyone over the age of about 30. whether they are a mom or not. Basically, if the rise of the jean is belly-button or higher, it's a "mom jean", and it's usually tapered around the ankle and never long enough. The rise of a jean is crucial to how it makes you look, if it is too high, it makes you butt look much bigger than it actually is and much flatter. Never ever wear a tapered pant, ever! Boot-cut (straight-leg) or flare is always a must. The "skinney" jeans are what's in right now, but only those who are 17 and under with unoticable hips should wear them.

"mom jeans" are never acceptable over 20, 30, 40, or 50.

To me, "mom jeans" are the pants that end at a person's actual waist, if not higher, and have no cut or form outside of the basic two legs and a waist. I really fail to see why anyone cannot spend the extra half hour to find a decent pair of jeans rather than settle for what was popular ten or twenty years ago. Appearance may not be everything, but most people will judge a person who takes no time on their appearance harshly. "Mom jeans" are not flattering, stylish, and I can't imagine any more comfortable than standard jeans, so really, why wear them?

There isn't anything thats really wrong with them. The thing is that they aren't flattering..on anyone. It gives the appearance that you didn't really have time to buy a pair of proper fitting jeans, and while I can understand that most people are busy and don't have time, it only takes an extra few minutes to figure out what size pants you wear and from there as long as your body doesn't drastically change you'll know your size and won't need to constantly try on clothes to see if they fit..you'll already have a basic idea. I personally won't let my mom buy them. They're tacky and she has more style than that, but again, thats just my personal opinion.

Its a matter of what is comfortable to you...I am 30 and a mom, and I personally wouldn't be caught dead in them. They are very unflattering. My own mother wears them, but I am getting her into other jeans, that are not so "mom jean"ish. But not so teeny bopperish either. If you are not comfortable with the super low rise boot cut, a lot of places make mid rise straight leg type jean. You have to try on a lot of jeans before finding what works best for your figure and shape. Jeans are the worst to shop for.....

maybe over 30 (i wont ever!)... most women wear them way high up above their belly button and the jeans tend to have straight legs. There are just many more flattering types of jeans for ladies to wear besides "mom jeans," but i guess its just what you like and are comfotable with. Personally it will never be my style.

Nothing wrong with "mom" jeans...or even jeans worn by women who look like ho's. Wear what works for you....and the heck with what others think.

Mom jeans are the ones that are baggy and all the way up tp your belly button. The title of it doesn't mean that moms should wear them, it means it is common around older women, esp moms, who have lost thier fashion sense.
