Does the Mayan Calendar Predict the End of the World?

The number 23 with protagonist the Jim Carey. number 23, plays a very important role in our life the Maya forecasted the destruction of world in 2012, on 23 December..........

Okay, ok, there has been a lot of this, I'm guilty of it too to an extent, there has been a lot of stuff pointing to the year 2012, and it's just around the corner so everybody is looking into it now.
#1 Don't believe the hype surrounding a movie, if the movies were true, then go find the National Treasure!
#2 No one knows why the aztecs stopped on the date they did, and they aren't here to tell us.
#3 As we all know, no one knows when the earth will end, everybody just has opinions.

According to the Maya - their date of December 12, 2012 (Not December 23, 2012 - which was just Journalistic License and fantasy at best by the film producer) does not mean the "End of the World" - it merely signifies the "End of an Era" - as their calendars were 52 years in length, then a "New" era would come about.
It like our "Age of Aquarius" thingy!

When 12/12/12 gets here it will be the same as 11/12/12 and 13/12/12. - and nothing more or less.

i posted this for someone else...

it is a common misconception that they believed that the world would end. life moves in cycles and around every 6480 years(i believe but this probably isn't the exact time frame) there is some sort of cataclysmic event, if you go back 6480 we are told that this is when civilisation was formed, roughly, go back another 6480 the plystacene(misspelled) era ended and 6480 years before that the preceeding era ended, this is all verifiable even tho i'm getting the numbers and names wrong. scientists can trace this bach about 25000 years and every time something happens. so 2012 is the conclusion of the current 6480 and also the conclusion of the 25000+yr cycle of the zodiacs, we will next be entering the aquarian age which is associated w/ attaining higher conciousness. the mayans seem to know a lot and if anyone says well why did they die it is b/c the belief is that we are all source energy that are eternal beings, our dna is essentially energy, and you can research that. the long and short of it is there will be a 2013 but maybe (and hopefully) we will all be better off by them. we are in the process of gaining this higher conciousness now, how often have we or others said there isn't enough time in the day or that children are growing up faster now than ever before, it's all relative

The year 2012 will also be marked by the near-Earth crossing of the Asteroid Eros, Superbowl XLVI, and the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth, just as a tidbit

do some more reasearch with the maya calendar, I don't think the world is going anywhere, it's us who are going and forget about global warming, the earth has always had many changes ... according to some predictions a large part of population will dissapear wether is war, climate change(stunami), or whatever... sadly but could be true look at all these strong storms and they are supposed to get stronger, just watch this year... lets wait and see...

read some more about the mayans then go see that movie "The last Minzy" and let me know if you see a connection...

Some believe that this date will bring the end of the world, armageddon, cataclysmic events...etc. It might not be that it will predict the end of the world in the sense of earth, but perhaps the end of an era or the signal of a time of great upheaval or change. It also supposed to mark the completion of the Great Zodiac precession cycle of 26,000 years. There is much dispute about dates and years but it does mark the end of the Mayan Calendar.

Well, the Mormons and/or Jehovas Witnesses (they all look the same to me) said the world would end sometime between December 31, 1999 and January 1, 2000. Here I am typing and here you are reading.

Actually it forecasts major revolutionary change with the potential for apocalypse rather than the necessity of apocalypse. But how interesting it coincides with George W. Bush's bill to go into effect 2013 requiring all identity cards be microchipped which coincides with biblical prophencies on the same subject. The Mayan Prophecies coincides with the Rapture, where people are taken and others are left behind to face the rest.
