i recently hurt my hand playing rugby... and around the area where i got injured are bruises(got injured in hand area). My finger that was most directly hit is fine just the typical pain, like geting hit with a basketball on top of the finger. however my finger is swollen like twice as big as it should normally be. just wondering what the next cource of action people would think nesesary.

You should have it x-rayed because it is probably broken and will result in long term problems if left untreated.

If your not going to see a doctor follow the RICE procedure:

REST: Rest and elimination of activity which aggravates the injury.

ICE: Apply Cold to stop pain and restrict excess Fluid to the injury.

COMPRESSION: To further inhibit swelling caused by excess Fluid to the injury. Splint the finger would be best.

ELEVATION: To further inhibit swelling caused by excess Fluid to the injury.

Take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen to help with the pain and swelling.

GOOD LUCK!
