- Money such as the American $1, $5, $10 or $20 bills. If possible, even the $2 bill. It's legal currency but not widely used. Should be able to get one from a bank. Also, coins such as the penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar, bi-centennial quarter, golden dollar, silver dollar, a collection of the current printed state quarters, etc.

- "Smashed Pennies" from famous locations. A smashed penny is a rolled out penny with a picture indented on it. The machines for these are usually found at places such as zoos, themeparks, certain museums, etc. You usually have to pay 51-cents though but they're worth it, in my opinion.

- Postcards are always good

- Keychains from famous locations

- Shirts from famous locations

- A cookbook with American recipes

- A guide book to cool American locations

- An American History book

- An American flag

What makes a great souvenir to me is when I go into one of the tourist trap shops and just look around until something picks me. It's usually something goofy like a spoon, shot glass, t-shirt, cap with the state, city or place (IE Disney land, particular lake, etc) your in. To me the sillier the better! A fun tradition my family and I have been doing for years is getting a pack of matches or napkin from any restaurant, hotel, road side truck stop, we've visited. Anywhere you stop grab one and put it in a big jar at home. It's fun to get them out and look at them. It brings back memories you didn't even know you had!

Have fun and good luck!
