I think the increased competition in the news industry over the last ten years or so has sparked the popularity of these obnoxious extremists on both sides of the political fence (O'Reilly, Limbaugh and Coulter on the right--to name just a few, and Michael Moore and Al Franken on the left). I don't think they even take themselves seriously.

People keep asking for examples of O'Reilly's idiocy, so here's one: In January 2007, O'Reilly on The O'Reilly Factor stated that Missouri pre-teen Shawn Hornbeck, who was abducted at gunpoint by Michael J. Devlin and held captive by him for four years, had "liked ... his circumstances" and "had a lot more fun" with Devlin than with "his old parents." While some commentators wondered why the young boy had not tried to escape from his captor, O'Reilly went further, flatly stating that "Shawn had the freedom to get away if he wanted to." The following month, Devlin was charged with multiple counts of forcible sodomy and producing child pornography.

The problem is that our nation has devolved into a sound-bite society. These folks make their living by saying outrageous things and backing up their arguments with dubious statistics. Unfortunately, it seems most Americans don't want to tune into somebody with reasonable, thoughtful opinions, and so the most intelligent people generally don't get air time.

I think this is why Gore and Kerry (ultimately) lost their bids for the presidency--what they had to say did not fit neatly into a 10-second blurb on the evening news, while Bush's messages did.

Bill is without a doubt the biggest hypocrite living. To think he has a program called the no spin zone. That is laughable at the least. He invented spinning the lies into the truth for the sheep of this country to wander mindlessly through life. He is a loud mouth liar and a disgrace to patriots across this country. He insults everyones intelligence daily on hie joke of a show. It should be called mad tv.

No, he's not a bit of a jerk. He's a complete jerk. I'm not sure that anyone knows how he gets airtime...
To be honest, he's a rather intelligent man who purposely acts like a jerk to bug everyone who's not a super-conservative. We all just do our best to ignore him. If you want a real moron, check out Rush Limbaugh.

Both the left and right have their complete morons. The right has fools like O'Reilley and Limbaugh, and the left has equal idiots like Bill Mahr and Randy Rhodes.

You have to treat them a bit like professional wrestling...they are here for entertainment purposes only.

I don't think many people what him. You have to remember, people like him have to get attention to get ratings to stay on the air. And, he's trying to make a name for himself at whatever cost to others or the facts.

Yes there are plenty of left wingers but no equivalent of O'Reilly. He has the most watched show on cable tv. He is a brilliant man, can be a tad annoying at times but if you actually listened to him a few times you might actually become informed!

Only neo-con lemmings, drooling sycophants and emotional cripples. He survives by playing to the lowest common denominator, making them comfortable with their ignorance, fears and total lack of character.

These are extremely non-descriptive questions and answers. Yes, Bill O’Reilly is a little bit arrogant, but which of his specific view points do you disagree with, or do you just hate him for the sake of hating him.

OK Carol M, then why is he an idot? I'm guessing you don't have an answer...
