has anyone on here ever filed sexual discrimination against their employer? if so, how did it go and what was the outcome?

I haven't (not has anyone filed against me). However, I have been trained in employment law and give a little insight into how these things go.

Most companies take this seriously and have a zero tolerance policy. As long as the issue is raised to HR. At that point, they care to ensure that everyone is listened to, that you don't get punished for reporting, etc.

Of course, not all companies take it seriously like this. Especially smaller companies that don't have people trained in the law.

You should try to work this out internally, if possible. Obviously, if the head of HR or the CEO is the one harassing you, this might not work. But if it's a mid-level manager, speak to HR before you file a lawsuit or EEO claim.

Unfortunately, when you do file an official charge, you will be put under a microscope. Every little minor thing that's wrong with you will be blow up big time. Did you EVER use your work computer for non-work? Be sure that this'll be brought up. Have you even been late? Turning in an assignment that wasn't perfect?

In other words, the employer is going to make the case that you're a bad employee. Not discrimination.

To counter, you'll need evidence that comments were made that prove that the action taken against you was sexual discrimination and not a legit employment action. Witnesses?

For example, if you have an e-mail that says "Sleep with me or you lose your job" you have a smoking gun. On the other hand, if the person that got the promotion was a man (and that's your entire case), then it's going to be very hard for you to prove discrimination.

Except... if there is a pattern. If no woman has ever been promoted above a certain level, that can be used. But a real pattern needs to be established.

In the end, if you handle this through quieter means, it's best for you. And if you do pursue, make sure you speak only of facts and non suppositions.

Like I said, most employers take this seriously and will try to make things right.

I Have not seen any case regarding sexual discrimination in my work place. But there are laws which protects sexual discrimination.
