Probably best to sit down with your boss, tell him/her what's on your mind, let them know that you appreciate what they have done for you, and offer to work with him/her to make your transition as easy as possible.

Just write a really nice resignation letter and give it them. It's easy. Tell them how much you have enjoyed working there. Tell them what you have learned. Then explain why you are leaving. If something better came up or you're going back to school, that is perfectly acceptable. That's a part of life, and employers know that. Go online to monster.com or some other employment or resume websites and you can find dozens of sample letters to use. Good luck!

If your boss is really nice then they'll understand that you want to move on to bigger and better things. As long as you give notice and don't "burn any bridges", I'm sure they would understand, and might even give you a letter of recommendation. Just leave the relationship in a good place in case you ever need to come back because something else didn't work out.

You can go online under resignation letters and find really good examples. That's what I did, and make sure to thank them personally for the time you did work for them...but you need to move on. You don't have to give details as to why. Just cut it short and be polite. You don't want to burn your bridges, it's a small world. Good Luck!

There must be more to this story? I don't see why you can't tell your boss you want to resign? Do you want to resign because of your BOSS?

You let him know that you have chosen a different path to follow and you give him a 2 week notice so he will have time to find someone to take the spot.

Don;t even worry about that - As long as you've got a good reason just explain it to him/her.
Ps More money is a perfectly good reason - don't be shy to say that - as is that the fact that you don't like the job.
Im sure you wont hurt his feelings (lol) !

You tell him nicely, of course. Give him two weeks' notice. Be sure to tell him he was good to work for, and if appropriate, tell him why you are leaving. It's business--not a romantic break-up.
