People say bad things about baby food because many years ago it was full of salt and preservatives. Now it's not. What you read on the label is what's in there. In fact for some things. carrots for example, it's better to use jarred food then to make it yourself because baby food companies buy from growers whose product has lower nitrates then what you would buy fresh.

I don't know why everyone says bad things about jarred baby food, but I'm sure it's not about the ingredients.
Have you ever tasted it? The green beans are yucky! There are only a few of the foods that taste good. Bananas are pretty good. It has to be the taste that they are complaining about.

There are several things wrong with jarred babyfood.
First of all, although it may just be "grean beans" the jarring process kills alot of the nutrients.
Secondly, there is no fat in baby food. Fat is needed for the body to be able to absorb certain vitamins. Ever heard the term 'fat-soluable'? Thats what that means. Basically, when you just give the veggie, with no fat or salt, the body can't really digest it. (salt activates enzymes for cooked food to be digested)
Third thing is that fruits contain alot of enzymes. These are very important for digestion and the jarring process kills them. Fruit should ALWAYS be fresh.
Forth thing is that theyre silly. A child who is really ready for solids should be able to feed themself table food.
Why accustom the child to one texture, and then expect them to accept something completly different? How many parents have had a hard time getting thier child to eat solid food after giving them baby food for most of the first year? I know I see questions about kids having texture issues all the time on here.
If babies couldn't live without pureed food, none of us would be here now. They didnt have food processors 200 years ago! Kids started eating food when they were old enough to chew it.
I don't know about any of you, but I don't serve canned anything to my family... why would i serve it to my infant? Same goes for cereal and those little pre-packaged meals they make for kids... I don't make TV dinners, why would I give the most impressionable person in my family such a rotten start?

i don't have anything bad to say about the ingredients, i just do not see the use for it, a child needs formula and maybe cereal for the first year of life, then a child can eat real food, as a mother to five i don't need the added expense, i can give my child green beans with the rest of the family, i don't and have never seen the use for baby food,

I am indifferent on the subject of making your own baby food or buying jarred food. Seems like today though you can't really trust either one of them. i mean really look at all the problems that have arouse with chemicals being on fresh fruits and vegies. Then there was the spinach sittuation. Seems to me that either one you chose could be dangerous.
If the biggest complaint is sodium levels. I would say to buy a natural babyfood that is sodium free. They cost a bit more but is worth it.

Ugh. Have you tried it? It's really easy to leave your food mostly unseasoned, then take baby's portion out, put it into a mini-chopper, and then season the family meal for everyone else. Better yet, feed baby the same spices everyone else gets (if he tolerates it). Less money, less waste, and baby learns to like the food that you prepare. Jarred food is great for outings and when baby rejects the meal you make.

i only say bad things about non-organic jarred foods. They are pretty heavily processed and not the best nutritionally, but great in a pinch!
This is why i have a problem with a lot of the posters on here asking about jarred food. They feed way to early in some misguided attempt to save money on fake milk, or because grandma did it and they're "fine."

Because they are expensive and processedso some of the nutrients are lost.
It is so easy to blend some green beans together and stick them in the freezer. It just seems pointless to me to buy the jars but I wouldn't condemn someone who did I would just think they were silly!

no-canned food is what i fed my kids! are we both missing something? i think that people just want to make themselves sound better by saying, "oh, i make my own". well sorry, I am a working mother, half the time i don't have time to sit down let alone make my own baby food. so no, i don't think there is anything wrong with jarred baby food.

"Everyone" does not say bad things about jarred baby food. Practically everyone alive in the US today under the age of 60 was fed canned baby food, and it's certainly of better quality (less sugar, fat and salt) now than it was 30 years ago.
