Old one by far.....just can't mess with a classic. The OOmpa Loompas and the kids were just too good.

It's so hard to compare! It's almost like apples and oranges, which is strange since they're both (supposed to be?) the same movie.

The first one is good because it's just classic. The child actors are great, I especially loved the little girl who played Veruca much better than the one who played her in the remake. Also, it's a musical, and the newer version took out a lot of the music numbers (other than the Oompa Loompa ones of course). I mean, who doesn't love the candy man song, the "I want it now" song that Veruca sings and of course the one that Wonka sings when they enter the candy room. Those moments in the film are excellent!

On the other hand, i love Johnny Depp and what he did with the character. I felt like he really stretched it and took the perspective of Wonka to a whole new place that it didn't really go in the first version. I liked what they did with the look of the Oompa Loompas (although the orange face and green hair is also classic!). And I liked the Charlie better.

So, they're both great, but for different reasons.

Hands down the old one, the old has has fun songs, it does not have Johnny Depp, and Tim (cant direct) Burton had his hands in it. Gene Wilder is the only one who can play Willy Wonka, and the old one was not charlie and the chocolate factory it was just willy wonka, and they did not have the violet from butte montana, i am from montana and they took that away, so down with crappy remakes, it was made once that is all it needed, it was good then and tim just crapped on it. It just goes to show that hollywood is running out of ideas and writers to do something original.

I liked Willy Wonka Better. Johnny Depp does a great job in Chalie and the Chocolate Factory but for a major sex symbol he looks terrible. That hairdo OMG. Gene Wilder looks crazy to begin with. Plus the Ompa Lompa's were better in the first one.

To me the old version of Chocolate Factory was best. There were some parts in the new one that made me laugh, but it just didn't compare to the classic version at all.

The old one, definitely. Gene Wilder did a wonderful job (my favorite part was his spooky song while going thru the tunnel in the chocolate river) and Johnny Depp's portrayal of Willie Wonka just creeped the living daylights out of me.

I love Johnny Depp in everything he is in, except this.
I have to vote for the classic one, no one can out do Gene Wilder in the lead role of Willie Wonka, and the oompa loompas OMG the originals are the greatest, creapy.

The old one was perfect. I see no reason why they even had to make another. Gene Wilder was the greatest Willy Wonka, a genious. Johnny Depp was just wierd and a little creepy.

The Original was much better. I like Johnny Depp as an actor, but this new version was too creepy and less fun. I blame Tim Burton.

I don't like to compare them. They are two very different visions of a story so they should be taken on their own.

When we all read a book, we create our own ideas of what characters and places look like. I don't think any of us are wrong per se or that any of us have a better vision than anyone else.

I love the original and was thrilled by the remake.
