I am 14 years old about to turn 15 this July. Now, my boyfriend is 17 about to turn 18 this November. It looks like a big age difference, right? Wrong. He was born November 16th, 1989. I was born July 20th, 1992. The age difference is only 2 years and 8 months. I live in NC and everyone is telling me that the legal age difference is four years. Only thing is, I need an actual document or internet site that states that it is legal. Please I really need this because his parents are threatening to break us up. Yes, HIS parents and he's 17. THey baby him and this is taking it too far. Neither one of us want to break up and I Just need an internet NC law site stating that the four year age difference is legal EVEN WHEN HE TURNS 18. Please, i really need this. Please help. =[

you know what, i think i should definently find it myself because most of you are just being rude and saying unnecessary things because if you were in her situation, you might understand but you are not and all she needs is help. if you dont want to help and want to post rude things, do it on another persons question.

Your parents (or your friends if that's the case) would not be able to file statutory rape claims in the state of North Carolina. North Carolina law states that statutory rape is only in effect if the age difference is greater than four years. Since this is not the case, it's not statutory rape and not illegal. However, as the person above said, your parents, since you are under 18, could forbid you to see him. His parents could also forbid it, even if he is 18, if he is still living under their roof. But legally, it is allowed.
Legal age of consent for North Carolina is 16, meaning that when you turn 16 you are free to have sex with a person of the opposite sex as long as they are older than you, of course.

I cannot find you a website that is going give you this law, but here is the "law of the land".
If you are under 18, and you are not emancipated then you fall under parental control - which means if they do not want the boyfriend seeing the girlfriend then they can say - you can't see her. When he turns 18 it's his choice - but his parents can also kick him to the curb as well at that age.
I see your little edits about "being rude" or "not understanding her position" - let me tell you something - 14 and 17 is a huge difference and I refuse to give the answer that she wants to hear which is that we all support her wonderful decision to get into a romantic relationship with this boy. 14, soon to be 15 is way to young to understand what life is all about.

Here's your website...and it will give you no good news.
There is a 9 year differance between me and my wife HOWEVER we did not meet until she was 31.
Maturity is at issue here, not your age. Your age does play a factor in his parents thinking, because he can be charged as a sex offender, whether YOU like it or not.
Ask yourself this question, are YOU willing to ruin someone's life, simply because you don't think something is fair? While you can state you will not have sex until you are 18 or married. The bottom line is, all it takes is an accusation to ruin his life completely...something his parents are concerned about, even if you could care less.
AND YES...I do sound like his parents.

No, it won't be legal when he turns 18. The law doesn't worry about when your respective birthdays are, it only cares about your age today. So the day he turns 18 and you two have sex, he'll be committing statutory rape.
Realistically, it is unlikely that the two of you will stay together anyway, even though you have very strong feelings now. Almost NO-ONE who is 14 today will be with the same person when they are 18.

Darlin', I'm sorry to say that you're not gonna find what you are looking for. I empathize with the situation, but it's considered statutory rape. Personally, I have problems with this myself. I know of a young man you got convicted of this and his girl friend was less than years younger than him. If they want to date, no problem, but if they are having sex and someone finds out, he could be in serious trouble. If she really cares for him, she'll tell him no. Sorry, but you're not gonna get a legal ok in this matter. Best of luck. Chuck has already provided the link, so I'll refrain.

Do you really think a document or Internet site is going to change his parents' minds? And where are your parents? You are too young to be having sex, regardless of what the law is. Why don't you try to prove your maturity and responsibility by only seeing each other around your families, or in groups?

i found this link don't know if it will work but you can put it in the address bar, hope this helps, holly tells you all the details of statutory rape in your state when it is considered this and so forth, just look at it and read it carefully i do not believe you should force the issue with his parents just because it will cause more headaches than you should believe, just respect their wishes and be done with it, and whatever you do please do not have sex with this guy, i understand that you may "love" him but you will end up like i was 14 when i got pregnant with my first child and had him when i was 15 hope this helps, holly

You are too young to be dating a 17 year old anyway, if you two are having sex when he turn 18, then he can go to jail for statuatory rape...you need to find a young punk your own age..

You can date all you want, no law prevents that, but if you're having sex or being inimate that's a different story. If you're 14 and having sex with an 18 year old, then you have bigger problems then....

What is your question? I have never heard of a legal age differnce. There is a legal age of consent for sexual purposes. I imagine it is 18 but you can check it out if you google the laws in your State.
