I have everyone of these sypmtoms and have for sometime, I have read some about it but I feel kinda dumb telling my doctor this is what I think I have. I dont like diagnosing myself. Are there any tests they can run to determine if this is what it is? I know there is another condition called Myositis(sp) which is kind of rare but also people suffer with some of the same sypmptoms. I am at my wits end!

Signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia can vary, depending on the weather, stress, physical activity or even the time of day. Common signs and symptoms include:

Widespread pain. Fibromyalgia is characterized by pain in specific areas of your body when pressure is applied, including the back of your head, upper back and neck, upper chest, elbows, hips and knees. The pain generally persists for months at a time and is often accompanied by stiffness.
Fatigue and sleep disturbances. People with fibromyalgia often wake up tired and unrefreshed even though they seem to get plenty of sleep. Some studies suggest that this sleep problem is the result of a sleep disorder called alpha wave interrupted sleep pattern, a condition in which deep sleep is frequently interrupted by bursts of brain activity similar to wakefulness. So people with fibromyalgia miss the deep restorative stage of sleep. Nighttime muscle spasms in your legs and restless legs syndrome also may be associated with fibromyalgia.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating associated with IBS are common in people with fibromyalgia.
Headaches and facial pain. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have headaches and facial pain that may be related to tenderness or stiffness in their neck and shoulders. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, which affects the jaw joints and surrounding muscles, also is common in people with fibromyalgia.
Heightened sensitivity. It's common for people with fibromyalgia to report being sensitive to odors, noises, bright lights and touch.
Other common signs and symptoms include:

Depression
Numbness or tingling sensations in the hands and feet (paresthesia)
Difficulty concentrating
Mood changes
Chest pain
Dry eyes, skin and mouth
Painful menstrual periods
Dizziness
Anxiety

well my aunt has it and her symptoms are a lot like Multiple Sclerosis. I would know this as I was diagnosed with MS. Many symptoms include, numbness in legs, arms, fingertips. Also weakness in the muscles, and not to mention chronic pain like constant back pain. MS is hard to diagnose because like I said many symptoms are so much alike. My doctor thought that was what I had until I had a spinal tap done and that is what determined I had MS. My aunt experiences lots of chronic pain but some of the medicines that her doctor prescibes helps ease some of the pain. May I suggest you going to the web site I got below and ask that question what are the symtpoms for fybromyalgia. Good luck

Muscle pain and tenderness around the muscles such as around the shoulder (giving this as an example because this is where I feel some of my flares with my fibromyalgia) can be a symptom of fibromyalgia.

Joint pain can be another.

I would recommend seeing a rheumatologist to confirm or deny you have fibromyalgia. They check to see if someone has fibromyalgia by checking for tender points.

Some say that if you have 11 out of 18 points you have it but my rheumatologist explained to me that some can have more than the 11 of 18 points and some can have less.

Chronic debilitating back pain. It can also be coupled with joint and tendon pain and fatigue.
