Fuller did a fairly good job with his answer, except that Sereno's recent discoveries would appear to push the age of the earliest dinosaurs back to at least 232 million years ago. The great Permian/Triassic mass extinction event of 251 million years ago opened the ecological door for the evolution of the dinosaurs. Many scientists now believe that the low atmospheric oxygen levels of the early Triassic (GEOCARB data) led to the evolution of the dinosaurs, which were morphologically more primitive in most respects than the synapsid reptiles (ancestors of mammals) but apparently had a superior respiratory system (as modern birds do). Dinosaurs evolved from a squamate lizard of the early Triassic. As more paleontological discoveries are made it is possible (probable) we may have to push to age of first dinosaur farther back, perhaps as far as 240 million years ago.
Fuller is correct about the demise of the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago due to the visit of a giant asteroid upon the Earth.

Dinosaurs lived during the Mesozoic era, during 178.6 million years. The Mesozoic began 245 million years ago and ended 64.6 or 65 million years ago. Contrary to what most people believe, dinosaurs didn't become extinct just by a meteor impact, there are more reasons:
-A change in the polarity of Earth's magnetic field
-Multiple meteor impacts. Like the most popular one, Chicxulub in Yucatán, Mexico, 65.3 million years ago
-Climate changes. Temperature raise.
-Increase of volcanic activity.
-At that moment, the sun and the solar system finished their move in the galaxy, the end of a galaxy year.
All these aspects contributed to the extinction of dinosaurs, but the extinction happened from 65 to 64.8 million years ago, it wasn't so fast.

The dinosaurs were created by God alongside other animals in the Creation. The grand majority of them were wiped out in the Flood but Noah ensured that two of them were kept on the Ark. When the Ark came to rest then the dinosaurs then came back to the Earth.
The Flood came about about 5000-4500 years ago and the Earth is about 6000 years old.

the dinosaurs were very sucessful and lived for165 million years.a large meteor hit the earth and the impact showered tons of debri into the atmosphere.this blocked out the suns rays and caused climate change.they became extinct 65 million years ago.

There are many theories on how ancient dinosaurs died out. From a lack of food, to a giant meteor, or a climate change. I think it was about 250,000 ya; but I'm not 100%. Remember though, we are still surrounded by our friend the Bird, our modern day dinosaurs!

The first dinosaur, Marasuchus, appeared ~200 million years ago (mya). All non-avian (non-avian means "not birds") dinosaurs died off at the K-T boundary, ~65.5 mya. Therefore, dinosaurs existed for ~ 140 my. However, if you consider birds to be dinosaurs (which is why I said non-avian dinosaurs), then they are still around now and have thus been here for ~200 my.

Those that think the dinosaurs died out millions of years ago are perhaps unaware of the large amount of evidence indicating that they lived recently alongside man.
There are many written accounts and depictions of dinosaurs.

Remember that the word dinosaur was invented in 1841. Before that people used names like dragon.
People from all over the world have accounts of dinosaurs: the Chinese who have incorporated it into their lunar calendar, The Welsh who have the dragon in their flag; The account of the Saxon Beowolf; The native american thunderbird; and other stories from many other nations. The Romans even made mosaics of them.
Furthermore, dinosaur fossils have even been found containing blood cells - hardly 65 million years old.

But check the evidence for yourself - don't by brainwashed by dogmatic evolutionists who don't want us to think for ourselves :)

The main reason they've died out is most likely because they've been hunted to extinction - good old St George.

An estimated 150 million years, says ask.com! why they died out, there are tons of theories, the most prominent being an asteriod hit and destroyed most of the species on the planet forever. They died out about 64 million years ago.

A very long time ago. They died out because they were fed up with walking and their Nikes wore out.
