i am trying to prank my family and friends... what is your favorite april fools day prank?

I'm over it. It's a bit too childish for my taste.

Take an empty dish washing soap bottle such as Dawn, Drill a small hole down through the top squirt valve. Put a piece of string through the hole, knot the string on both ends. Pretend to be having trouble getting the soap to come out, ask for help from some unsuspecting soul, when close to them, squeeze the bottle,the string squirts out and they will always react. * superglue a quarter to the floor in a public place.* put a piece of scotch tape over the ear piece of a telephone handset.* Classic done years ago in NYC two guys bought an old park bench at public auction, and fixed it up. They took it to Central Park during the night. The next day, dressed as bums, they sat on it until a cop appeared. Then they got up and started carrying it off. When told to put it back, they said it was theirs and they had a bill of sale for it. The cop did not believe them, and arrested them. They went before the judge wo realized it was April Fools day.

You could get an unused unscented tampon and put it in their coffee or other favorite beverage! It expands and fills up almost the whole cup, but you can't see it till you take a sip! When they pull it out, the look on their face = priceless!
Or you could create an e-mail account on yahoo or something with their own name and send them weird e-mails from it.
You could do the old tape over the mouse, if you have a mouse that has a ball on it. Or tape on the office phone where the phone cradle is... the phone rings, they go to pick it up, and it keeps ringing!
Saran wrap over the toilet bowl.
Fake scratch off lottery tickets, fake letter stating they've been selected for something great or something that scares the sh** out of them!
The possibilities are endless!

well the best one was that I did was take some black paint that I use for Halloween makeup, and put it around the circles on a pair of binoculars and pretend you are looking at something through the binoculars (but do'nt put them directly on your face) and pretend you see something, get excited about it to draw your friend's attention to it so he/she will want to look through the binoculars. Once they look through them, and take the binoculars off their face, truly truly a funny sight. Make sure you have a camera ready. Did that to my parent's friend, and it was funny watching him run down the hill looking for someone with 2 black circles around his eyes. This prank never gets old. Good luck in whatever you do. By the way, April Fools day, is definatley my day. Makes my daddy proud. No one around me is safe.

Put a rubber band around the sprayer on the kitchen sink. When somebody turns on the the sink, they get a shot of water to the face. It's hilarious and has never gotten old.

clear jello in the toilet ... classic
or like someone else said the rubberband on the sprayer in kitchen
my younger bro did this one to my mom laste yr. he put clear hair gel on the toilet seat ... lol ...
at school you can wedge a piece of chalk into the grooves of the eraser ... classic ... when you try to erase you just put a line of chalk on the board
or ...
put some crisco under the doorhandle of you friends car ... or spray WD40 on the windshield
well now that i have given you many options on how to get your butt whoooped i think im done now
