Im an elecrtician and after 14 years doing the same job over and over im bored.
I feel like im wasting my life and that im capable of doing so much more, or even something that I enjoy doing.
I work in a family business and feel that I dont want to end up with nothing else in my life apart from work which generally runs my life.

Im into all sorts and good at most things manual that I turn my hand to. Im artisitic and very proud of my work.

Should I stop moaning and get on with life or just grasp life by the balls and go for something differen and rewarding to me?

Im not ungratefull and i do feel lucky to have a decent job, but I cant help it if Im not happy with what im doing. A decent wage is nice but no good if your not happy, and to be honest its not that great compared to similar skilled trades. We sparkys seem to be the most undervalued of the main trades.

I like cars so maybe a mechanic?

I love my music so maybe a DJ?

Im good with wood so maybe a joiner?

Grrr theres too much choice!

Do what you want to do, my husband decided last year that he had enough of driving coaches and because he wanted to be a mechanic and had done for years, enrolled at the local college and is now in his 2nd year of an apprenticeship. You are never too old to learn something new, and it keeps the mind young as well doing somehting you enjoy.

Yes stop moaning and get a grip, maybe not. It's important you keep your source of income but take up a new hobby like boxing, football, travelling the list is endless. In fact the more new new you take up the better you'll feel.
Finally please visit the poorest part of the world and learn from the people and I'm sure you will appreciate your life and what you've got-your job.

i'm guessing your 35-36 maybe? electrician is a brilliant trade steady work and can be well paid. i'm 35 and been labouring to the trades for 15 years i currently get 6 quid an hour. your just bored and pissed off. invest in being your own boss as an electrical sub contractor with your own squad. you can earn enough then to realize your dream even if for a year. i got the vinegar knocked out of me a long time ago, i know my place and worth. i paint landscapes and make cabinets from scrap wood (wombled fom sites) and give them away for free (who wants to pay for my crap). but i love my job and my tool, a shovel i'm naked without it. invest in your dream dont piss your career away on a whim.

It must be shocking that your life has lost it's spark. May be if you got to the point and be specific you could get yourself all wired up again and within a flash have a bright idea. Don't let your mind go dim. Keep switching things around, eventually you will find yourself plugged in again. Don't worry something will go bang and you will be wondering what all the fuss was about.

i feel the same as you dude, i think i'm worse off too. i've got a masters degree, yet i committed myself to being a slave to money and NOT happy at all...

the way i cope with it is to do a bit of voluntary work whenever i've got a bit of spare time. makes me feel more socially integrated again! Hope it works for you.
