I really would like to go there and visit but the cheapest airline ticket i see is about $1000 r/t.

First question - is when do you really want to go? The least expensive is from Dec. 20 - May 29 and then again Aug 11 - Nov. 27. There are also minimum and maximum stay requirements. $ 1000.00 is about right in those time frames. There may be consolidators which may have reduced airfares - but - they have limited number of seats.
In order to get the best fare, you should have travel dates in mind.

Wait until the Bering Straits (between Alaska and Siberia) are frozen and then you can go on bike or walk! I don't know if it's going to be the cheapest way but it's something to consider in adding some adventure to it!

Steerage aboard a cargo vessel. It may take a few months, and several of the crew may grow fond of you, but hey, consider it an adventure.
