I suggest you look into a new breed of house cats called "toygers". They are true genetic house cats but they are bred to look just like tigers! That way the big cats can stay in the environment they belong in, and you can have a pet that will be happy in your environment. Try www.toygers.org or www.toygerbreed.com. They are expensive now but they are new, prices will come down in the future, most likely. I hope this is a good solution to your problem.

Yes, you can own a large cat. You have to find out where you get the permit for one, and they'll tell you what type of large cat you can own. I don't think you can own a lion though, but I know you can tigers. Then some people will come out to your house to make sure that you can accomodate it's needs properly, then they come by your house to check up on it for a few weeks, then leave you on your own.
Last time I heard, depending on the state, it's only a few dollars for the permit. I've been wanting to get one, but we don't have the room for one right now.
If you have kids in the house, or small animals, I wouldn't recomend it. Large dogs would be fine with them. Anything that a large cat might normally hunt, or moves like something that it would hunt, would be a bad idea. If you only plan on keeping one, really, for just a few months, and if it's young enough, then everything should be fine. But if you think that you might keep it longer, then I wouldn't chance it. Having small kids, well, that's an answer by itself! Other animals, like farm animals- goats, pigs, chickens, cows, ect, would probly be a bad idea also. Small animals like goats and chickens, and even small dogs, and cats, are prime targets for an adult large cat. So if there's a chance that you might keep it until it gets old enough to try and hunt, or becomes an adult, then I wouldn't do it.
If you have neighbors with small animals, then you'll have to tell them that you're brining one home, and if there's enough that have a problem with it, you won't get one. The permit people have to go around the neighborhood asking if anyone minds.
If you don't have neighbors, no kids, and no small animals or prey, then you'll be fine lol. Go for it! You'd be saving one of these georgous creatures! More power to ya!!
Just because you want to bring a large cat into your home, DOES NOT mean that you're taking it out of it's environment. A baby cat that's taken into a normal household groes up to do just fine on it's own in the wild. It may take it a while to get used to the idea, but they do fine. Every single cat that's taken into a home, is there for a specific reason. Don't get one if you just want to say that you've owned one. Get one because you want to save the species, or it's life. There's places you can go to become a recue aid for rare and exotic animals.

Possible....yes....Practical....NO....
It doesn't matter how much training an animal has had..If it is large or strong enough to over power you it is very dangerous! And I'm not sure where you live but I am sure that this would be illigal....I saw on "Most Shocking" where these people had a lion in there fensed in yard and would let neighborhood kids come take pictures with it and make videos of them petting it because it was so "Tame and friendly". Well a kid stumbled and fell on it's paw so the lion grabed the kid by his face and damn near ripped it off.....

No you can not. It is illegal in most states to own one, and should be for all. you do not want a baby tiger/lion. I helped raise a couple born at the zoo I work at. At 10 days old, their eyes were barely opening, and they already had teeth that could bite through skin as easily as butter. At that time, they also whine a lot and need to be fed every 2-3 hrs or so. By 1-2 months old, you need to start training them in correct dicipline (by a professional that knows how to interact correctly with big cats). At 1-2 months, they can already kill you by accident just because of their size and their teeth.
Plus, people always want them at their cute stage (where it is legal) you could maybe find an adult, but babies sell for about $8,000 +each- no one will ever rent one to you.

despite all the discouraging answers above... yes, it is possible to have a baby tiger or lion as a pet.
but, the bad thing is you can only keep it until it becomes 6 months of age. after that, you have to give it to a zoo. (that's the law in my country, i guess it is in yours too. anyway, there are ways to find out.)
there are a lot of disatvantages as you can figure out. one of them is that, unevitably, in 6 months you become very fond of your pet, and it is heartbreaking to give it away.
so, think many times before doing that.
hope my answer was helpful.
best wishes!

Possible or no, please don't. For my sake, though you don't know me. Those creatures should be left free and wild. However, it IS possible, as long as you are licensed. Also, I've seen it on animal planet and they had a couple cubs, tigers, until the cubs were half-grown, then the people had to get rid of the cubs - send them to the zoo.
But please don't get lions or tigers.

It depends on where you live. In some states owning big cats is illegal unless you are part of a rescue organization.

No. Maybe a zoo or a sancuary, but legally it is not allowed and they need a lot more room than your living room can provide

Why in the world would you want to take an animal like that out of their world? That's not normal for them. That's not good for them. That's probably not good for your neighbors either:)
