I'm going to buy a new turntable and am wondering if the amount of money I spend is likely to reflect the quality I receive. I have seen a Ministry Of Sound turntable secondhand for £45. Brand new this turntable is £80. Is Ministry Of Sound known as a good brand for turntables or am I better with some other choice.

For starters Ministry of Sound kit is total rubbish. It's not a good brand for anything...

A good budget turntable would be something like the Pro-ject Debut Mark III. This retails for about £120 and has gained many awards for it's sound quality.

But if you want to really splash out, you could easily spend £5,000 on a turntable. The more you spend, the better the sound quality. Apart from Pro-ject, check out Rega, Linn, Townsend, Clearaudio, Origin and Michell for some alternatives.

I have got to go with the first answer, if you want to here your vinyl the way it was intended and the rest of your gear is up to Scratch, (pardon the pun) the Sondek is the ultimate turntable. But sadly of course you are not going to get one on E-Bay or anywhere else for £45. You pays your money you takes your choice.

I'm not sure where you live, but in the USA, there is a FANTASTIC one at Target. It's a gorgeous turntable wooden casing, plays all sizes cd's and cassettes, and radio. But sometimes too expensive isn't worth it, try a place that lets you try it out.
