I just found this article about the French Jesuit missionaries in Maine between 1611-1613. Allot of people forget France owned territory (in what is today the modern USA) lost it after the French and Indian War 1753-1764. Greatest influence Louisiana.

Legend has it that Leif Erricakson(sp) left missionaries in Nova Scotia when he discovered America.
This first provable exposure to Christianity to America was from the Spanish in both Mexico and Florida as well as southwestern U.S. This was over 100 years before the landing at Plymouth Rock. The settlement in Jamestown also had religious people with them.

I like the Jesus answer.
Leif Erickson was not a christian and his discovery of America is highly questionable.
Columbus was a christian and so when he set foot on dry land so did Christianity.

Columbus introduced it to the islands, but the mainland was the Spaniards in Florida and to the North were the first British settlers.

Christianity had long been in the new world before there was an America. The Revolution wasn't until 1776.

Those ever-lovin' religious whacko's that were kicked out of Europe and sent packing. They, unfortunately, came to "the new world" so they could practice their nonsense in peace. Call them "puritans" or "pilgrims" or whatever.
When they arrived, it didn't take them long to start destroying the people already here - in the name of their god, of course.
Earlier and in the West, you have the heroic Conquistadors with their Franciscan Friars who were looking for gold - and along the way established the self-serving "mission system" and managed to wipe out several native populations throughout what is now Mexico, Central America and the West...again, all in the name of their god.
