The Sony System came with the VISTA already loaded on it. My concern is that I don't have full usage of the 64bit dual processor. I tried to install the XP from the start when booting he computer by placing he XP disk in the drive first and then start the computer. Even thought it installs, it still trys to boot VISTA, this tells me that a boot sector for Vista is still on the drive. I want to put XP on it so that I can use my Lexmark printer with the Sony VAIO VGN-N230E B 1.73GHz processor, 15.4in display.

When you boot from the XP cd, select the delete partition option, then continue with format and install. This MIGHT be enough.

If not, you might need to Zap the boot sector. email me and I can send you the program. It's free from IBM but hard to find on their web site.

Stock parts that come with the manufacter are made for it. VISTA will always be on that hard drive. I would think about getting a new hard drive. look on www.tigerdirect.com and www.newegg.com . You can get a 320gig seagate from tigerdirect for 70 bucks :). There are lots of problems in down gradeing VISTA and XP. I wouldn't mess with it and just get another one. You can only upgrade OS systems, not down grade, they won't let you.
