Good answer "zila" but the increase in budget and man power were used in the northern border.
The "fence" bill that you mentioned was passed but never funded. smoke and mirrors, my friend, smoke and mirrors

Its about cheap labor from illegal immigrants. That's too lucrative for the US Govt to worry about something as silly as "homeland security".

We don't have a lot of illegals trying to get across in Canada.. and we've been at peace for so long with them that we haven't ever had a focus on security there.. there's never been a need... so the Southern border is actually MUCH safer than the Northern.. in as far as terrorists trying to get across is concerned.... it's a good bit behind up North.

Simple. Canadians are evil by design.

No seriously, because the Repukes are good at telling white trash that they are going to defend the southern border and the white trash in this country is gullible enough to believe it - and keep believing it when nothing happens in 6 years, even though the Repukes controlled ALL THREE branches of government for the first FOUR YEARS.

And the conservative response to this: its either the liberals fault (for somehow making Bush incompetent) or they claim Bush is a liberal (because, of course, there is NO WAY they could possibly be wrong).

My thoughts are that there were some terrorists that got into the US via Canada. It would appear that it is a more favorable route than through Mexico. And since the Patriot Act was designed to protect America from terrorism, it makes the most sense to me...

It took you this long to figure out the Patriot Act isn't particularly big on actually protecting the United States?

Since you've got the full text, read it carefully--and look for what's really being said. In practice, teh Patriot Act nullifies YOUR civil rights and constitutional protections. Whatever else it does (very little, actually) is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.

Yea thats a good question.
Our national government for the most part doesnt want to do anything about the southern border is about the only answer that comes to mind.

No reason to protect the southern border.. Americans need cheap labor to sustain the economy.. and Americans can't get enough tacos and burritos and quesadias.. Oh no! Not the south border!

Because a lot of people who are friends with our government make a whole heck of a lot of money by having a constant influx of workers willing to work for low pay. It also acts to suppress our wages while not effecting their quality of life in any sort of negative way. They don't even have to live in neighborhoods around them, so win-win situation for them.

Lovely, isn't it?

The states along the southern border are full of republican entities that want to get around our minimum wage.

Too much money involved in illegal immigrants and their cheap labor savings to shut it down!

Besides, there are now 20,000,000 of them in America

That could be considerd an a foreign army living among us.

That's another reason
