I've had a Magic Chef Microwave Oven for 4yrs. now, and all of a sudden it doesn't heat anymore. Everything else seems to work fine the time, lights, and turntable....what could be wrong??? I was told it was probably the MAGNETRON, would I be able to change it myself, and where can I find more information. And, no my microwave is no longer under warranty except the magnetron which is covered for 8yrs. Please Help???

Inside the machine is a fuse that is expressly for the magnetron tube. You may or may not have special screws that hold the cover on, but usually they are the tamper - proof kind, you Can buy the tool that removes them. The fuse will be a small (1/4"x1 1/4") AGC type and will be white ceramic with a metal cap at each end, this too, you can buy. After replacing the fuse, make sure that you put the cover back on before testing the ' nuke '. The special tool ( if you have to buy one) and the fuse will cost far less to purchase than a new unit. If the unit still doesn't heat, then the problem will most definitely be in the mag circuit. To replace the entire unit would be my best advice, to repair it costs more than just money, you also have to hassle with the repair people and lose out on time not having your 'nuke'.

It is very easy to make your own heating pad and its only a few steps. Here are the items you will need. Soft, 100% cotton fabric, scissors, long grain white rice, funnel, sewing machine, thread, plate or peice of paper. Decide what shape and size you want your heating pad to be. You can make a long narrow one to wrap around your neck. A square or rectangular heating pad works well against your back or sore muscles. Prewash the fabric. Dry it in the dryer without fabric softener sheets. Cut the fabric into the shape you want. Leave ½ inch all the way around for a seam allowance. Either cut two pieces, or cut one piece and fold it in two. Place the fabric pieces right side together. Stitch in a straight seam. Leave a 2-inch opening to insert the rice. Backstitch both ends. Turn the heating pad right side out. Use a funnel to pour the uncooked rice into the heating pad. Put a piece of paper or a plate underneath the heating pad to catch any rice that spills out. Don't overfill the bag. Tuck the raw edges to the inside and sew the hole shut in the heating pad. You can either stitch it on the sewing machine or sew it shut by hand. Heat the heating pad no more than two minutes in the microwave. Never get it wet.

Take it to the repair man it is better to let them do it. It costs but it is safer to get it repaired by a profesional in the long run. If it is an easy job then it won't take long. Sorry. If your repair man is friendly and elderly, may be some shopping for his wife or taking her out shopping or to church on Sunday would reduce the price. Most small shop keepers may be willing to barter if you make it worth their while they are not all dirty old men or perverts. A magnetron makes the microwave which do the cooking.

Like someone said it may just be a fuse.
Don't try to replace the magnatron. they put out 4000 volts and you could be dead in no time.If it is not the fuse junk it and buy a new one.
One other thing you may do is if in your area they have adult classes on repairing small appliainces take it in there it will cost only the cost of parts the teacher overlooks all the work.

I filled one of ours with barley and one with lentils - the lentil one gets hotter faster and holds the heat the longest, and it is more fluid and molds better - my neighbor says cracked corn is best so next one I make will be with it... the lentil one I heat up for 3 minutes and it stays comfortable for approx 20 minutes the barley one about 15... And you want to know how to make them - ours were so easy! You could use old sock, but we went and got new ones, they are the long, knee high thermal socks (6 pairs for 5 bucks at walmart), fill them 3/4 of the way up with the grain or legume of your choice and them sew the open end up - they are simple and last along time!

Definitely the magnetron. It's what does the actual heating.
Bring it back or send it in for repair.

That is what is wrong with it so, just take it back to where you bought it and they will probably install a new one for you in about 5 minutes while someone tries to sell you a new one..lol
