I currently have a 2-gallon aquarium with a whisper flter, light, plants, and stones) on my desk at work. I currently have my 1" fancy tail goldfish in there, but learned he needs more room so I'm putting him in a bigger aquarium at home.

I'd like to keep the 2-gallon tank going at work. Would this be good for a betta? If not a betta, what other fish/non-furry creature can I put in this tank and how many?

Thanks in advance!

That is a good size for a betta, but depending on the temperature you may need a heater. With proper water changes your tank could be home to 3-4 white cloud with no heater.

With a heater you could also include in the list of possiblities a few 3-4 neons, or black neons, or glow light tetras, but nothing really any larger than those.

A Betta would be perfectly happy in a nice, 2-gallon tank with a filter. And good job on getting the goldfish in a proper sized aquarium!

Small size tanks have their problems in that the water quality can go downhill rather fast. Therefore, you must be sure to make regular water changes each week at least 1/4 of total water volume. I consider a 10 gallon tank to be of a small size.

I use a 2 gallon size tank only as a hospital tank when someone gets sick, or a newcomer has been purchased.

Sounds perfect for a Betta. One thing you didn't mention is a heater. Betta's need a water temp of at least 72 degrees to be healthy and happy. A couple of fancy guppy's might do the trick as well but only 2 or 3 and only Males.

Good Luck.

A Betta would be very happy in the tank and keeping you company at the office, try feeding him frozen blood worms once in awhile as a treat { if you have a freezer area in the lunchroom}.Enjoy

A Betta would do great in your tank provided its not to cold for him.You can get a small 7.5 watt heater that is made for small tanks if your room isn't warm enough.

I think a betta would be good, because I have one and it happily lives in a half gallon tank, so maybe you could get like 2or three females?
