my bofriend started a new job, after 2 weeks his drug test come back positive, so they had to let him go. How will this affect his cdl licence?

He can kiss his CDL goodbye. Once the state finds out about it - and they will, because his former employer is REQUIRED to tell them - the state will yank it immediately.

If it was for a job requiring a CDL then yes he could lose his license. Only if it was a pee test. The employer is require to do so by law. Otherwise companies have to keep that info confidential.
