I suppose it's the same way you can get a cut everyday and not die. We're not losing that much blood anyway. It may seem that way, but in reality, we're losing about 35 milliliters a month. Wikipedia said 10-80 mL is considered normal.

You have 8 pints of blood in your body. Each month you lose about 5 tablespoonfuls (if that).
Need I say more?
Oh, and the human body can replace blood quite quickly - hence blood donors do not die after giving 1 pint (an armful, for those who remember Tony Hancock)

ur a girl u shud no. its cuz we nurture it so when we loose blood for like 3 days, then for the rest of the month we give our body nutrients so it can replace it. its lilke when we were kids and every day or week or wutever we'd get scrapes and cuts, and we bleed like crazy sumtimes but we dont die. same concept, different situation.

its the lining of the womb - it comes out looking like just blood buts its the lining of the womb *and* blood ( the lining is the clotty bits you sometimes see ) - then its all out and the bleeding stops - end of period. This repeats each month - you dont lose much blood - only about a tablespoon they say .....the cause of period pain is the 'action' of the womb lining coming away - it hurts so we get tummy ache - thats it basically.....

You shed the lining of your womb thats why you dont bleed unecessarily, so whatever you lose was coming away so thats why you dont bleed to death.
