Advertisements are set up to appeal to the audience that is most likely to purchase and utilize the product. Since, women are the the consumer that is most likely to use a vacuum, the advertisers try to show the women not only using the product, but enjoying an easier life because of the product. However, I've seen a few vacuum commercials which feature men. Plus, if you see a lawn mower commercial, it's probably a man riding it, because a man is the one most likely to use it in reality. ;-) I know it's disconcerting, but right now ---> that's America!

Who do you think makes the purchasing decision for the vacuum cleaner in most cases? Men are not really the target audience for those advertising dollars. It would be a very poor investment.
I'm sure some women use power tools, too, but I have yet to see a Craftsman commercial for Mother's Day.

Good point. I've also never seen a commercial where the guy breaks down in tears because nobody asked for a second cup of the coffee he brewed. You have to realize that ad makers have to home in on stereotypes, they want the largest audience possible. But they can be subtle - the guy's gonna go out and buy his housewife the vacuum with the big, brawny motor, ya know?

Because women know how to use vacuum cleaners. Men can vacuum just they aren't shown in commericals like women are.

You know- I always pay attention to whether the commericals for household cleaners or cooking products use a woman or a man. They still usually use women. And the Target make-up commercial is all white girls with 2 black girls. What's up with that?

WOW! How observing. I guess it's because men are "too good" for vaccuuming. For some reason, men think they are better than women. Haha. They aren't. And we aren't any better than them. We are all equal. You know what, men should live in a woman's shoes for a month and see what it's like.
