There are plenty of books on chess openings. The best known set is the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings which I believe is 5 volumes. Modern Chess Openings is 1 volume and a better starter. You can get these many places, one being the US Chess Federation.

Ya, I actually have played at Playerplaza.com and like it a lot. But if you want to get some practice and learn openings, I was at the book store last night, and noticed a few really good chess books. That might be your best bet.

Hey, one place you can find help with Chess is at about.com . You just need to do a search for Chess. One site I did come across though where you can play free online chess is at Playerplaza.com......so once you start practicing, you should test your skill there. Good luck.

Most chess programs (e.g., ChessMaster) have opening libraries, and frequently you can instruct the program to use a particular one.

"Blazes of Glory" is a Yahoo group I maintain. One of the mainstays of the group is coverage of gambits, where in the opening, one side gives up a pawn (or more!) to gain an attack.
Currently I have only uploaded the Bishop's Gambit, but I can upload many more gambits depending on what you want.
So join the group and put in your request!
