I have a male and a female betta in a huge tank (30 gallons). It was the only one I had and I figured that they wouldn't mind a little extra breathing space. But can they be together, even if the tank is so big?

With a tank that large the Fish may not even notice each other for a while. The male will have enough room to build his own territory that the female will wander in and out of, but she should be OK as long as you have plenty of areas for her to hide in.

I don't suggest keeping Betta's together unless you are breading them. But if this is the only tank you have don't panic they should be OK because there is plenty of room for them to stay out of each others way. Just keep an eye on them and if they start fighting separate the male into a container of his own, and get 3 or 4 more females to keep in the big tank. Females almost always get along with each other.

Good Luck.

Well, I once had a 20 gal tank with some other fish and a male and female beta. I had put the female in the tank first, and then the male, and the male chased the female around a lot at first but they settled down [plenty of hiding spaces for the female]. By and by, they mated and the male kept making his bubbles for a nest, but it was hopeless because the other fish right away scooped up the eggs.

30 gallons? that really not very big... I have a 46 gallon and it's still not very big. at the pet store they have a 300 gallon. now THAT'S BIG.

and yes, they can live even though theres is alot of space. but I think as magic man said that if the female doesn't want to breed he might attack... you could add some other fish in there as long as they don't have long fins. tetras would be cool. not guppies or mollies or platys or swordtails because they like salt in the water which the betta can't handle. always ask if the fish you're buying like salt because they won't live as long without it.

good luck

That will prolong the inevitable. They will eventually find each other and the male will attack the female if she is not in breeding condition. You might have luck with that in a 55 or larger, but even a 30 isn't enough space for her to always stay out of his way.

if you're making a sorority of three-5 females and one male they might get alongside... No gurentees nonetheless... do no longer merely get one male and one lady because they'll extremely frequently kill one yet another (one kill yet another). verify you tank has a filter out with that many bettas and be prepared for the worst. if you're prepared to position in the attempt be certain to get a male it is not any longer as agressive.

Oh yeah... I have a male and female turtle in a pond. They get together. So it may take a little time, but your little demon fish will get together too.
Hey throw some other little fishies in there so the male will attack them and impress the girl betta.
Ha...
