Do you get involved when a couple is fighting? Like if the man is hitting on the woman or vise versa??? Or do you just allow it to happen and continue on?
What are you thoughts on this???
Yesterday, our neighbors were fighting. She came banging on our door & we let her in. She apparently bit her boyfriend over money and he grabbed her and was dragging her around by her hair. My husband went out to get the guy away & off of our property.
The woman wanted our help but didn't want us to call the cops. So we didn't. But I am so confused. If she wanted our help why didn't she let us call the cops so they could come and fix the problem.
My kids and all of the neighborhood kids witnessed this too. What can we do? I know for sure if it happens again I am calling the cops.
What would you do? Any comments would be great =)
*** I am sorry if this is in the wrong section...I didn't know where to really put it.

The couple came out of my neighbors house. They don't even live there! I guess they are staying for a bit or were visiting our neighbor. Thank goodness that they don't have any children!
You could see where he ripped her necklace off...she had a few marks. I felt so bad for her.

I would've called the cops simply because he may have broken law where it wasn't up to her to press charges.
One day, my hubby and i were driving and in the car in front of us, we could see the man driver pullig the female passengers hair and hitting her. I callled 911 told them where we were, what was going on and their license plate number. We kept following at a discreet distance but could still see him battering her. We must've followed for them 20 minutes, well out of the way we were going, until we saw a police car turn their lights on and go after them. Darn good thing the guy didn't have a gun--or not that we know of It was violent, ugly and scary but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

If there is actual physical abuse (by either party male or female) call the cops.
Do your best not to become physically involved. You could become a target of their (physical) anger. Or retaliation.
By not doing anything, you teach your kids that it is acceptable to do nothing. Not a good lesson.
She didn't want you to call the cops because she was afraid that she'd probably get a beating for it afterwards. Plus her boyfriend would probably assume she made the call.
Also if she bit him, she could (and probably would) be charged with assault too. Especially if she started the confrontation.

Any trouble, call the coppers. They may stop something going further.
I remember driving into a car park in Swansea, and right in front of me, a bloke was literally, kicking the S H I T out of a woman as she was putting her baby in the car-seat.
I was FURIOUS, I couldn't believe he'd do it in front of people (usually they do it on the sly, been there, done that) That poor baby, what had it been subjected to before that?
I parked up and ran back to where they had been, but they'd gone already...
I was so pissed off I was nearly crying.
The cops couldn't do anything because it wasn't happening 'there and then'.

I certainly wouldn't stand by and watch a man drag his wife around by the hair. I would try to separate them and call the cops. I think you did the right thing but I agree that next time you should call the cops. You don't want it to get out of hand and someone innocent to get hurt while trying to help.

I have been in both boats. I've beent he victim and aggressor and I've been the neighbor that hears others fighting.
I think that the only way people will see the light is if the cops come. That will bring everyone back down to Earth and realize there is a better way to resolve things.

i probably would have respected her decision at the time ... but i wouldnt let it happen again i would call the cops if there is a next time. your kids shouldn't have been exposed to that and you should probably talk to them about it explain what happened. Hitting somebody is not right even if its a woman hitting a man.

a lot of times if someone does get involved then it makes the situation worse! I know because I use to have to deal with that too and if the cops do show up then if she doesn't want to press charges then they won't do anything about it! You need to catch her away from her other half and suggest that she get help from a domestic violence shelter. That 's the only way she will ever be able to get help.you can't help her if she won't help herself.

As long as the fighting remains verbal, I stay out of it. But I believe that any decent person should step in when it turns physical. I've got a couple of small scars from a situation like that but no one has the right to physically attack another person regardless of the provocation. I can't help myself, I always get in the middle of something like that.

Call the cops. They don't have to know that you are the one who called. But you need to tell your neighbor that the next time she runs to your house you will call the police because she is putting your family in jepordy.
