Freestyle will develop your back muscles a lot. That is if you swim the proper way. Swimmers are known for their strong backs and shoulders! breastroke uses the legs a lot, so your legs will becomes stronger with breast.

Well the quality of your stroke will have an influence on the answer.

Generally speaking , I think your core muscles will develop but you won't particularly notice that, so I would have to say you will notice upper back and shoulders first... at least, that is what will ache most, straight away.

True breastrokers all walk funny by the way.... and they have really big rounded shoulders, a huge chest and their feet turn out.

The core muscles will be the most developed while swimming free and breast. The chest/shoulders/abdominals and back will gain the most tone, strength and mass. That's why it is important for swimmers to maintain core strength by doing balance work and core workouts in the off season!

Mainly Triceps and Deltoid muscle , but it also works all back muscles and shoulders . Lower back and abdominals are working too when you do leg kicks as ur leg group muscles will also be working depending on your leg kick speed .

probably the arms because you have to pull yourself through the water. but swimming basically works every part of your body, mostly your legs and arms. when you swim, if you want to build up more, u should do ladders. like sprint a 50m, then do another 50m at like, 70%. it really helps.
