Uh, Islam hasn't been around for thousands of years.
The Sunnis and Shi'ites IN IRAQ are fighting; not all Sunnis and Shi'ites.
They began fighting after Bush illegally invaded their country, and botched every single decision after that. He created the conditions that led to the current violence.
(Firing the army, De-Baathification, putting murderers in charge of the country, failing to secure ammo and explosives, etc., etc., etc.)
Although the two groups do have religious differences, their fighting is NOT over religion, but is over power and control of resources.
And it's not happening in any other Middle Eastern country.
AND it wasn't happening in Iraq until Bush interfered.
But to answer your question, he isn't.
What with being the CAUSE and all.

I'm not entirely sure Bush is the one, but it can be done.
Europe was once more volatile than the Middle-East. The history of warfare in Europe goes back thousands of years as well.
WWII didn't put an end to war in Europe. The 250,000 US troops that were stationed there for 40 years after the war did.

He won't, it will be years before that happens, At least 2 or three generations; however, he is the first one in 40 plus years to actually take a stand against radical Islam and the thousands of American lives (think all the way back to 1979 and before) that have been lost to radical Islam.

It is not a question of can he stop it but is he willing to do what is needed to stop it . War ends when the human cost reaches the point that the people are no longer willing to accept it .
With Muslims it is impossible to say that without killing them all and destroying the Koran that it is possible .
So it can be done in short order but will it get done is the question .

And you've been showering each day (I hope), yet you don't stay clean. So why bother?
Get it? It's the same with other aspects of life. The only war that will end all wars is the one that kills EVERYone. Man has been fighting since Kane killed his brother, Abel ... and unfortunately, that seems to be the way it's going to be.
You can't STOP yourself from getting sweaty and dirty, yet you keep trying to make yourself clean, don't you? Well, it's the same with war and peace. The "end"/goal, whatever it may be, cannot be fully and permanently realized, yet we must keep on trying.
Simple as that.

The reason they have been fighting is because moe (pi$$-buh) left no provision for the NON-violent transfer of power to a successor government.
And those morons have never figured out how to do it.
So that is what the current Iraqi govt will do, with help: establish a system in which non-violent transition of power can occur.

Bush cannot stop them who are dying to fight to beat others. Rember young societies are vibrant in terms of competitive sports: with age and experience, people learn to tolerate, have patience, co-operate and seek peaceful co-existence. Non-volence is the weapon of only the experienced and intellectally competent with control over passion and emotive outbursts. Youth is intolerant. No point talking to them. They will learn one day with experience.

they have not been fighting for thousands or years, while they have hated each other for thousands of years. how quick people forget that things have been quite in that region ever scene we put Saddam in power. Sure he had to gas a couple of villages to keep them in order but it worked! things did not get like this until we took Saddam out of power! He may have been a dictator but he sure kept things in line both factions feared him, more than they do the US!!

Well I dont think that Bush was up on his history. I truly dont believe he knew about that history between them. Or maybe he did but ignored it. He just wanted to get Saddam out of power, which he did and we are still there!! That was the mission... "Mission Accomplished." Bush said it himself. I really dont see why we are still there
