Snails can hold air in their shell, and do float on occasion.

If you don't see any change in the snail in a few hours try pressing gently on the round piece of shell that closes when it is hiding in its shell to release any trapped air, and look for a reaction if the snail doesn't try to pull in to its shell a little more it may be dead. The only real way to be sure is to wait a few day's and give it a sniff test. if it stinks it is dead.

Good Luck.

Snails have a cover over their insides as a defense check too see if it's still their.Pick it up and look at the bottom of the snail you should see a cover touch it just to be sure.No cover dead snail they're usually empty shell when dead also.

Snails to that sometimes, just float around for a while. If he doesn;t attach to something in a few hours check to see if he is dead by smell. If it stinks bad, it's dead.

Have you ever seen dead fish underwater? It's always floating up. That means your snail is dead

I think if they are dead, they will smell really bad. so take it out if the tank with your hand and take a sniff. i'm pretty sure if it was dead the other fish would eat it, and it would sink to the bottom...
