I've never heard of a "dagwell" sandwich, but possibly you mean a "Dagwood" sandwich. That term comes from a comic strip in which one of the characters, Dagwood, makes huge sandwiches for himself. See the below link for information.

Ever heard of the comic "Blondie" or the 1940's-1950's T.V. series of the same name?
A Dagwood sandwich was a work of culinary architecture that made grown men smile and Delicatessen owners rub their hands together in anticipation of large profits.
Put simply, a Dagwood sandwich is two slices of bread wrapped around the contents of the "ice-box" served after midnight, and washed down with a large glass of milk.
Watch an episode of the show, or read a copy of the comic and You will truly come to understand the machinations of the mind of the between meals snack maker.

Well,
I'm not sure but you may mean Dagwood sandwiches, and if you do here's the story........There's an old newspaper cartoon called Dagwood & Blondie. My Dad used to read it all the time. Dagwood (the husband) was this little skinny, scrawny guy that was notorius for giving his wife Blondie a hard time, and also for eating enormous sandwiches, "thus the term "Dagwood Sandwich". They are 3-4 tiers of meat, cheeses, veggies, etc. There you have it, hope it explains it for you.
