Get the car's license number, description of the vehicle (make, model, color, identifying dents, etc), pick up your cell phone and dial 911. Tell them what this vehicle did, the location that it happened and the car's information (a description of the driver, if you can, will help too). It would also be helpful, if you know where the vehicle is at the time you call. Let the police get the driver off the road. You could have been killed if the wrong person was driving and had a gun.

Although you were not wrong (legally) going to the other car, you should have called the police and wrote down the other cars information. Be sure to write down everything sign and date it so that it can be used as a reference in court if needed. Also get names, addresses and phone of anyone in the area that saw the incident. The more evidence (statements, witnesses etc.) the better chance you will have a good outcome.
In going to the other car you risk personal injury. You never know how these people will react when confronted.

NEVER get out of your car to confront another driver unless you want to be confronted with a gun or a fist in your face. It is indeed upsetting to go through what you went through but my bet is that if you had just pulled over and spent a couple of minutes cooling off this would have all passed. Besides that, when you confronted the other driver you likely pissed off other motorists trying to drive past you.

Yes you were in the wrong. You aren't a judge or even a police officer. What you should have done was jot down the vehicle's license number and phoned the police, state trooper, sherriff or whatever and reported the aggressive driving behavior.
You are very lucky that they didn't pull out a gun and blow your brains all over the street.

Once my husband and I were sitting at a stop light. The woman who was first in line didn't go on a yellow light. The guy right in front of us was so pissed off, he got out of his car and was screaming at her and hitting her window. I called the police. I would have called the police on you, as well.
You could have called the police, given them a description of the car, license plate number, and actually follow until police caught up with them. You should not have gotten out of your car. Actually, in the state I used to work in, you could have been charged with assault-fear if the person in the car told the police they feared you were going to assault them.

I understand your reaction, but you could have been killed. You should never get out of your vehicle and engage in an argument with people you do not know. Take down the plate number and report them to the police.

Because they are IDIOTs the world is full of them, next time get the license plate number and report them to the police for reckless driving, and possible vehicular manslaughter. Just count your blessings and be thankful you were not hurt.

Sounds like the other driver was an idiot--for whatever reason. But, I think you used really poor judgement in approaching these people. In fact, you are quite fortunate you they didn't beat the crap out of you or worse. Next time--let it go or call the cops. Don't try and handle it yourself.

Yeah. You should have taken the license plate and reported it, or called the police and told them there is a drunk or dangerous driver.
Starting off any conversation with "What is your problem?" usually doesn't get a confessional from the driver.
