Firstly, you are underestimating his importance as captain. He was a crucial part of our Ashes success, not due to his batting, but his captaincy. It is such an important role and Vaughan is right up there with Fleming and Ponting as the best in the world.
He also offers a bowling option which helps add balance to the side. Although he's no world beater, he has taken the wicket of Tendulkar.
I agree the his batting hasn't been all it should be, but he isn't the first Englishmen to have that problem. There is also the question of who would replace him. As a batsman, there isn't a great list of contenders to come in. Joyce was heavily touted as a great batsman and he too has failed to live up to expectations. Bell has problems in the one-day game, Flintoff is nowhere near where he used to be and there hasn't been a queue of players pushing to replace them, has there?
And worse still, who would be captain. Flintoff isn't up to it, Collingwood is being put forward, but everyone seems to have glossed over the fact that he is an all-rounder too. Nixon? hardly the way forward, Bell? same batting problems as Vaughan. Pietersen? No experience of captaincy.
So before you criticise him for not batting well, look at all Vaughan does contribute to the side and then judge.

I think Vaughan has lasted so long because when he first took over the captaincy from Nasser Hussain the England side suddenly became a force to be reckoned with (remember the glorious 2004 Test series against New Zealand and West Indies?) so the selectors may be hoping that he can do something special again at some point. But I agree, his skill as captain is questionable and due to his poor batting in this World Cup (78 runs @ 19.50 so far) his usefulness to English cricket might be in doubt soon. But since we have so many inconsistent players at the moment, I can't see a reasonable alternative.

He is an excellent captain in the tests but him and Ian Bell are not good enough for this one day team especially if Trescothick returns this summer. Also i feel we dont take advantage of powerplays enough.we should have either pieterson or flintoff as an opener, like Australia do with Gilchrist.Plunket should also be in the team ahead of Mahmood
my team would be(with everyone fit)
Trescothick
Pietersen
Cook
Strauss
Collingwood(c)
Flintoff
Nixon(w)
Plunket
Anderson
Panesar
S.Jones(if he ever recovers,if not then Jon Lewis)

Michael Vaughan is a good Test batsman and captain but in ODI's he has not scored a century yet I don't understand why he's in the team.

Yes, Vaughan has been proved to be total failure after his return back to the team from injury. In order to retain his captaincy and place in the team, he should start performing well as otherwise the time his loosing the captaincy is not far off.

in my opinion england should stick to michel vaughn untill he performs well and becomes a good player he is mostly out of the national side due to injuries so they should give him certain period of time to concentrate had on his game and should be given entire support by the team mates i hopeu got the answer have a good day

The poor form of our openers is a big concern. I think he will be out at the ned of the world cup if we don't make it past the super 8's

How did he get straight back into the team without showing any form in the first place? I can see him being injured again soon anyway.

ummm he makes good decisions on the field i guess and thats why they want him as captain plus he has more experience that most of the players on the team so his leadership is very valuable!
