The US forces won the Battle of the Bulge, and it was definitely not a turning point in the war. Germany's demise was sealed in the rubble of Stalingrad. THE turning point was Stalingrad....where nearly 1.8 million men died from both sides....the total losses at the Battle of the Bulge was 38,000. The only 'turning' point the Battle of the Bulge created was to hasten Germany's defeat in the east as the last reserves were sent to the west.

The Allies won at the Battle of the Bulge. It was a turning point in the war because it would be the last German offensive in the Second World War. The Allies were now poised to head for Berlin to meet up with the Russians and force the Germans to an unconditional surrender on May 7, 1945

My pop was captured at that battle. it was of course won by the allies, it wasn't so much a turning point, the Germans had already lost the war, it was just a matter of time. the Battle was Germany's last offensive on the western front (probably in the whole war) and was meant to split the Allied position, capture Antwerp and convince the Western Allies to come to the peace table. It was a last desperate attempt by Hitler to save the Reich and it could not have succeeded. The main reason it was a hopeless plan was Allied air power. The limited success of the Germans in causing a "bulge" in the Allied line was because of the bad flying weather, which lasted the better part of a week. Once the weather cleared, Allied planes just "creamed" the German tanks and supply lines. The Germans were nearly out of fuel to continue the offensive anyway. I think they had intended on fueling up at Bastogne (french town) but the Americans (101st airborne) that occupied Bastogne wouldn't surrender. The German commander asked them to, but the American General in charge said "nuts" to the German offer. He really did, he sent back a note that just said "NUTS." The Germans, not knowing American slang didn't understand! The Allies in the West had complete (100%) control of the air. The only thing the battle accomplished was to shorten the war because the Germans spent their last rescources in men/supplys in the effort and had little left to defend against the Allied counter offensive that followed.

The Battle of the Bulge occured in late December 1944 when the Allies (US, UK, Canada) had invaded Europe and had almost defeated the Germans in France. The Germans made one last, desperate attempt to break through the Allied lines.
Although the Allied forces were pushed backward from their furthest advances (the lines of battle "Bulged" or stretched backwards) the Allies were able to withstand the German attacks and within a few days they were advancing again. That was really the end of the war on the western front, as the Germans could no longer muster enough troops and equipment for a serious attempt to defeat the Allies.
On the street where I live there is a memorial to a soldier from our town who was killed in this battle. He was a young Jewish man named Meyer, 24 years of age in 1944.

Despite what General Patton sez - it was the United States 101st Airborne Division that won the Battle of the Bulge!
It was the turning point because had the Germans broke through it would have allowed them to sweep through Belgium and France where our armies were the weakest and much less experienced..
Another reason was, it was the Nazis Last Gasp and Last Straw. They realized that if they would not be able to break through into Belgium and France that their supplies, arms, munitions, and manpower would be greatly exhausted and that their ability to carry on the war would be greatly diminished - and it was.
While this single battle that lasted several weeks did not result in winning the war - if the Nazis would have been successful the war would have certainly been greatly prolonged to say the least.

The Allies, mainly American, defeated the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge. It was turning point in that it was Germany's last offensive action in the West, and with that defeat it was only a matter of time before the Allies would be able to enter Germany itself. At first the German had the upper hand, but eventually lack of gas, unexpected American resistance at Bastonge and Allied Air Power turned the tide.

It was not a turning point because it was an Allied victory, and the Allied armies were already well on their way to total victory when the Germans attacked.
If Germany had won the battle, it might have been a turning point if the Western Allied armies had indeed been thrown into logistical turmoil.

The Allies did.
It was where Hitler committed his best and last reserves, of Armour and Armoured Infantry. Executed in rain hail and snow with a low cloud cover the attempt was to grab the massive allied fuel depot at Bastonge and on to Antwerp.
Two green and two exhausted US divisions fought back heroically stalling for time when British Armour from the North as more US armour from the South could counter attack.
Once the weather cleared Hurricanes Spitfires and Mustangs armed with 8 21/2" rockets were able to take out hundreds of tanks.
That marked the end of Germany's offencive in the West. They would fight on and fierce battles would rage, but "Hitler's trump card had been over trumped" as somebody was supposed to have said.

The Allies won the battle of the bulge. It was a turning point because this is when the Allies started winning. Before that, Hitler had been expanding and expanding.
