I know this is a depressing question and has never crossed my mind before, but it happens to us all either sooner or later, do you think you could handle being told you have X months/weeks to live?

I believe this is a natural thought process that we all have to face at some stage in our lives because we all come to the realisation that we are mortal and that we WILL die. Some embrace the thought and some disregard it because it feels morbid to them.

I have been stuck in hospital with mutiple fractures after being involved in motor accidents more than twice. I have had to deal with the death and suicide of a family member. What these incidences did was made me think about death and yes even different ways to die. It also prompted me to talk about it out with others and eventually accept death on many levels as can happen to anyone at anytime and to be accepting of it when it does.

Have you ever thought about this? Congratulations, because you are among a few people that are aware that our lives in this world is limited.

Well, last time (around 2 years ago) I got stressed and depressed. I did not enjoy my career (although I had good position and decent salary) and most part of my life. I didn't know where I should go or what I should do in my life. I imagined, when I reach my 70s or 80s and facing my death, there will be some big question: What's my life like? What have I done? Is there anything in this world worthy of my time, my efforts, even my life? (I couldn't believe, thoughts of commiting suicide ocassionally crossed in my mind! Because, if you don't find any reason to live, what is the difference between life and death?)

Then I changed my job and moved somewhere else, but it didn't help me much. My boss then told me: You must know where you want to go and what you want to do. There are many good things, but you have to make decision. Then I thought deeply. I read few good books (it did help me!), and started to think about my life purpose. I thought about it deeper, wrote it down, and re-checked them. It's just the beginning of the process, I wish I can live a meaningful life.

Planning is very important, because if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.

Yup. I think about it every day, and make it part of my personal credo to accept that every day could be my last. And I'm a complete atheist. People are animals, and death is, absolutely and finally, the end. Any other belief is just a comforting fairytale. I cherish every day that I'm alive, because I know that there's no imaginary dreamworld coming along after it. I think about death the same way that you think about going back to work/school when it's Sunday evening and the shadows are getting long; I'd rather it came later than sooner, but when it comes, I'll just have to deal with it.

As I'm a Christian I've often thought about it, and I know that it would just be a one-way ticket home. Important to get things in order so I don't leave stuff undone, but it doesn't depress or frighten me because I know where I'm going and Who will be there.
I would be more depressed if my husband died and left me to live without him for a long life, because I love him so much. I've sometimes asked God to take us both on the same day because I can't really envision waking up day after day without him. I have no other family so he's especially important to me.

Hi,
i have been suicidal before so I have thought about death a lot...usually how I would do it to myself, but yeah I have thought about how it may happen in other respects too. I think everyone hopes to pass away peacefully in their sleep most unfortunately many don't. Whatever happens I hope it's quick..and not dragged out pain and suffering.

If i was told I only had weeks or months to livem to be honest part of me would be upset, but another part would be relieved..but that's probably because I am feeling low at the moment as i have been facing many issues of my own. Sometimes you have to count it as a blessing to know and are able to prepare for it as many people don't get that chance.

I think that the Majority of us have a mental Cut off switch which prevents us from thinking too deeply about the ins & outs of Life including how we came to be or how we will go. It can be quite dangerous to think about it for too long especially depending upon the mood that you are in at the time.

Like most people, I guess I hope that I will live a long and prosperous life and eventually fade away in the comfort of my own bed, having died from Natural causes.

All we can really do is to protect our lives as best we can and hope that tragedy will not strike us us down in our prime.

Good luck to you, live long and prosper!

Well, not really. I believe God already knows the time, and knows your number of days like the hairs on your head.

So worrying about when and how doesn't concern me much.

Many people are scared of storms and panic and other things, I while I do not go and stand in front of moving cars, I believe my number days to live has already been decided.

So why worry about what is out of your hands.
