wouldn't we have to have evidence (not just faith) that there is a God---evidence that does not include any info from the Bible...it is flawed logic to "prove" the existence of something by the existence of the thing ur trying to prove...

The Bible is not simply inspired by the word of God, it IS the word of God. And if you truly believe in God, you must believe by faith. Either you believe or you don't. God is supernatural and it is not meant for us to understand everything. If we did understand it and have proof, then we wouldn't need faith. He wants us to have faith in him, and for me personally, he actually proves it everyday that he blesses me with another day of life.

Suppose you wanted to prove that Plato existed? What would you look for?

First, are there any accounts left by people who knew Plato?
In the Bible, you have 66 books complied over a 2500+ year period that contain the histories of dozens of people who had encountered with God and recorded them. Many did not right their stories with the knowledge that they would some day be "scripture". They merely recorded the events of their meeting with God.

If you were to look for a true history of a person, what would you want? One from a friend who knew him intimately? Or one from an observer who watched at distance? Or one from a scholar who interviewed dozens of witness and read all the articles before compiling his bio? Or one from a friend, who lived to see the influence and understand the importance of the person's life and could explain as will as document that life?
There are four accounts of the life of Christ still preserved today as the gospels. One from an intimate friend (Matthew), one from an observer (Mark), one from a scholar who did the research (Luke) and one from an elderly friend with the prespective of time (John). They cover all the bases a person would look for in biographies.

Did Plato leave behind any written records of himself?
Contained within the pages of scripture are section that were written by God himself. Some, like the Commandments in Exodus and Duetronomy, engraved by the hand of God himself. Others, like the opening of Revelation, dictated word for word and written down by a scribe.

Did Plato have any influence on his society?
Somehow Jesus Christ managed to influence his society to where within 35 years of his death, the Emperor of the world was having to ban and execute his followers. His message managed to turn around an entire empire and world.

But more then that...
There is the daily evidence i see every day when I walk and talk with him. It matches what is contained in the Bible - where those people also walked and talked with him. I have seen the same kinds of miracles, experinced the same kinds of deliverences, and walked in the same kind of love.

The evidence is all around when you open your eyes and look...

We do have evidence. It is in the air we breathe, the sun that gives us life, the plants that feed us, the factories that pollute the air and give us cancer, the terrorists that mame, pillage, and kill. The deliquints that steal, rape and mutilate others. Don't forget about Katrina.
Now, what was that you were asking about the inspired word of God?
