it's true. Some people hide it, but others are more forward. It's part of human make-up

Depends who is defining racist. It is an over used word. Only the truly stupid really give a damn about skin color and racial characteristics when evaluating others. Culture commonly associated with certain races is another matter altogether. Not all black people are "ghetto" but let a school take a stand against "ghetto" clothing styles in school and watch the R-word fly. In the same manner not all white people are upper class or rich but we all get lumped together when it comes to haves and have nots. Was it the rich elite that got accused of blowing up the levy in New Orleans or was it "White" people. Don't worry about being called a racist ,that accusation generally comes from people to stupid to come up with anything else.

Why is this is the Lesbian, Gay and Transgendered section? And you know full bloody well why racism is wrong! And im not racist. When I argue or have disagreements with people of another colour I would never bring their colour into it I base the argument the subject. Too bring colour into it makes people spineless and ignorant. And people who murder someone because they are different is a whole other level...we all bleed the same at the end of the day.

Why do people deny their racism - because deep down in their hearts they know it is ugly and wrong. If you saw the last " Big Brother" in the UK you would have seen a prime example of people who are too ashamed to admit their bigotry. Black people for years have suffered the subtelty of racism. If you can get hold of the tapes you will see a bunch of people deny it to your face, try to make you think you are crazy and then stab you in the back - nasty and ugly!!! Have a word with yourself!! When I see it in myself i challenge it!! There is a poem by Pastor Martin Niemoeller that you should look up on the net. It explains everything.

I hope this is in the LGBT section by accident!!

I have heard that belief before, but only ever from persons of colour. I am wondering if it makes some people feel more comfortable wth the plasce they are with themselves to believe that.

I walk as a human being. I accept that I am naturally more aware of the unfamilier. So if I meet someone who is different from what I am used to it takes a little while to take things in and become familiarized. You are always discovering new things about people. There can be that new ground where you are getting to know where the other person is comming from and vise versa. Mostly I just really look into peoples eyes and really just am there with them. That is not racism. Look it up in the dictionary.

There is the universal core of a person where we are allone and there is our individuality and our lineage, our cultures, polotics and spiritual beliefs. It is hard to take it in all at once.
So I strive to just take thing one person at a time.

I wish everyone could relate human being to human being. It is fear I think and ideas about power and betrayel. Not trusting the friendships you have with people because they are from a different group.

I had a dear friend who was an Italian Canadian Catholic. As far as I knew, she was my best friend. When it came to her wedding, and her husband to be was a friend of mine also, three other friends popped out of the woodwork who were also Italian Canadian Catholics. The one I knew was a very close firiend of hers but the three! That was a surprise.

Anyway, all three of these women were asked to be her bridesmaids and not me. I was told that the priest would not allow me to be a bridesmaid because I was not Catholic.

It was devistating. I was so hurt. I had to stop and really look at how I felt about this whole thing and I was angry. I saw where my anger came from. I thought about anther time where a a woman I thought I was friends with told some mutual friends that she would never be true friend to me because she could never trust a white woman.

We all have our moments. Believe it or not, this hasn't changed the true heartedness of the friendship I offer people.
I feel sorry for these individuals. It still hurts to think about it, but it hasn't made me take the easy route and start generalizing about people. Even on here, when I am against a particular belief I try to remember to staight that.

I realise that really horrible things are and have been going on for a lot of people for hundreds of years. I respect peoplles feelings onthis who have been long term victoms or targets of racism. I have met people over the years though that just blow me over. Like an older woman I met at a dinner party once. At some point the subject became historical. I wasn't sure what was going on. She pulled me gently aside to talk to me. As she spoke to me a saw she was rolling up the sleeve of her blouse on her left forearm. I don't remember a thing she said. All I remember now is the concentration camp tatooe on her arm. GOD! OH GOD!!!!!

You people who say this stuff, you better look into the mirror within.

This is not denial. Just because other people cannot concieve of the way I am, does not lesson the relality. What is that thing about if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it did it really fall...sorry, a little off. The point is, people need to open there minds to broader possibilities instead of just reacting to things and then getting defensive.

Everything is wrong about racism and that wierd mask of rascism called, what is it? Counter racism? Like it is OK! None of it is OK.

Peace.

Listen to the song, everyone is a little bit racist from the musical avenue Q. Very touchy subject. I don't judge people on thier race, but different races is what makes us individual and makes the world go around.

I don't find anybody racist if they are miffed at anybody who is insecure enough to "wear a badge of Faith" all the time whether that's a skull cap, headscarf or orange robe. What people do on a Saturday or Sunday morning is their own business, but I don't want to see the "in yer face" advert. I don't wear my football shirt all week, why should they?

What is wrong with racism? How about you look up the statistics of how many people have died due to their race or religion. Then come back and ask that question

Put in simple terms racism is about judging someone purely on race e.g all black people must be stupid etc therefore it is based on ignorance and a total unwillingness to change, compromise or learn. Therefore in my opinion that is not something to be proud of or just 'accept' it is something that needs to be put right where ever possible!

Now where do I start?

To hate a group just because they are different is abitry - what if it was blue eyed people or brown eyed people.

You loose because you cut out a very large and interesting interaction

There is a difference between quitly dislikeing and making people the target of hate

I don't deny it... I recognize it when it rears its ugly head in me...and I do all in my power to put it down, reason it out, neutralize the feelings...racism is a fear of "different," nothing more, nothing less. IT is up to each of us to conquer this ugly beast, and I do my best to do just that. Good luck
