I have a 4 month old breastfed baby. How do i know if he a diarrhea? I mean it's all pretty runny. He usually has 2-3 BM a week and the last two days he has had 4 BM. I recently started him on a couple of teaspoons of rice cereal a day, to help with his acid reflux.

Baby poop looks like diarrhea for those people who think I'm just stupid.

We tried eliminating dairy for a few weeks and it didn't seem to change anything when i started drinking milk again.

2-5 BM a week is considered normal for a breastfed baby. If your baby was having a BM every time you fed I would be more concerned about that.

Have you tired eliminating dairy for his reflux?
You can tell because you wont be able to see anything solid... the diaper will just be colored mustard yellow and the poop will have sunk into the diaper... does that make sense?
2 BM/day is pretty normal for a babe when solids are introduced.
Where is Mystic? Shes got experience with reflux in a breastfed baby!

eek-your baby on has a bm 2-3 times a WEEK? or do you mean day?
when I was breastfeeding, my baby pooped at every feeding--it was 'loose'- she would fart and poop, but it wasnt diarrhea--it was because of what I was eating in my diet.
you may want to look at what you're eating -coffee, soda, sweet- all cause a breastfeeding baby to have loose/runny bm's

He's fine. His system is just getting used to the cereal. Some babies get constipated and some have diarrhea. I would wait about 1-2 weeks and if nothing changes, i would go to the doctor. But until then, don't worry about it, babies bodies react different to different types of food.

Breast feeding the stool will never be firm. That is normal. My two usually had bm every day.

Diarrhea would be just liquid, no little clumps (whatever you want to call it) in his diaper. If you are ever worried call your ped.

Um, diarrhea is pretty self explanatory. If you are concerned, take him to the doctor.
