What is the point of the long wire on the inventel? Why doesnt it just come with the USB attached to the unit?

Because the "long wire" offers a more reliable connection.

Your being to vague. what kind of iventel product do you have?

I have a DSL modem that is wireless, it has Cat five connections and it has a USB connection.

It included a cat 5 cable and a USB cable.

User choice in how I can hook up my hardware.
