In his prime was possibly the greatest ever. He revolutionized the position with his unorthodox style of flopping around like a fish. Took the Sabres deep into the playoffs a couple times despite the fact the the team was not on par with the cometition talent wise. (half of the players on the 99 team never made much of a career for themselves after they left Buffalo) Dom singlehandedly brought a gold medal to the Czech Republic in the 1998 Olympic games in Nagano. It was sad to see the ugly ending to his career in Buffalo, but he gave fans a show every night. Also donated a million dollars to youth hockey program in Buffalo.

As far as his personality goes, it is not nearly as stellar as his skills in net. He seems to be in many controversies reguarding "faking" injuries. Also, he has been known as a coach killer (Ask Ted Nolan).

Why is there so much negativity directed toward Dom?
He's not like the inconsistent Khabiblulin, or the talent-surrounded Patrick Roy. Brodeur has done more in a system that was built around defense.
Hasek was incredible. And he was a lot of fun to watch. "Slinky for a spine." He was Buffalo after Lafontaine and Mogilny, but before Briere and Drury.
Honestly, aside from Peca, who did the Sabres have in Hasek's formidable years? As was stated somewhere on here, "he turned a bunch of minor leaguers into Stanley Cup contenders."
He is the reason why the Blues got rid of Roman Turek, and why Ottawa got rid of Lalime. He's the reason as to why the Wings have gotten rid of CuJo and Legace.
Come on! He is 42 and still one of the better goalies in the league. Better than Theodore, better than Esche, Roli and Olie.
Granted, he may not have much time left, but was does it matter? If he can win today, i'll take him.
Too old?
"My NHL doesnt include anyone over forty."
What!
Back in the 60's you would have said that the Leaf's China Wall was too old, yeah, he won a cup in his forties. And several near forty.
According to your "ideology" Bourque should have retired before ever winning the cup. Not to mention Mr. Hockey who would have retired three seasons or so before his retirement from the Wings. Igor Larionov's amazing triple OT goal in the finals against the 'Canes never would have happened.

Hasek's the Dominator. He's earned the right to stop playing when he wants to or when he no longer has any job offers. (Just like any other legend of the game). And if the Wings will give him a job, then he must still be pretty good.

"I think Patrick Roy said it best. During an interview Roy was asked about his reaction to Hasek putting him down. His reaction was, I can't hear you Hasek. There are too many Stanley Cup rings in my ears"

No, St. Patrick said that about Jeremy Roenick in the 96 semis.
I dont know where you got Hasek from.

He does so much flip flopping and diving he looks like a spastic chimp. When he played for Buffalo he got the coach of the year(Nolan) fired because the management cared more about the over rated and over payed players than they did about a coach that deserved more respect.
I did see him earlier this year when I was at the auto show in Detroit. He stopped his Jeep and gave some kids his autograph. I thought that was pretty cool but all the bad things he has done for the game have still kept him on my **** list.
I think Patrick Roy said it best. During an interview Roy was asked about his reaction to Hasek putting him down. His reaction was, I can't hear you Hasek. There are too many Stanley Cup rings in my ears.

this question is an absolute humorous tale: Patrick Roy - 551 wins (all-time chief), sixty six shutouts, occupation GAA of two.fifty 4, 3 Vezinas, 5 Jennings, and maximum critically 4 Stanley Cups (none of which his communities would have gained devoid of him). Dominik Hasek - 324 wins, sixty 8 shutouts, occupation GAA of two.21, 6 vezinas, 2 Jennings, yet purely a million Stanley Cup. information look very comparable, and the two have been incedible goalies that no team ever had to stand in a playoff sequence. in spite of if, in coming to an answer to this question i could turn to Patrick Roy's playoff overall performance of 1993. The Habs gained 10 on the instant OT video games that year, and the clarification is straightforward...Patrick does no longer enable a objective in the greater desirable physique. Hasek's occupation would have been longer and greater prolific if he had come over to the NHL formerly, yet Communism prevented that. whilst Dominik particularly ranks between the astonishing 5 goalies of NHL historical past, he particularly does no longer come on the ingredient of Patrick in terms of the impact that he had on the communities that he performed for. besides, Patrick grew to become into an innovator. definite, Dom's type is unique and particularly has shown to be smart, yet what proportion NHL goalies do you notice mimmicking that type? very few, because of fact this is not if truth be told sound. Patrick, on the different hand, invented the Butterfly, the goaltending type that dominates the league in the present day. In 1986, while Patrick broke into the league, his coach asked him if he could placed a mattress in the crease because of fact of all of the time he grew to become into spending on the ice. this perspective replaced at as quickly as, as Patrick went directly to hold the Habs to a cup victory in his rookie season. end of tale, applicable goalie EVER: Patrick Roy... In a pair of years we are going to could do a assessment of Roy and Brodeur...

He is old. Still better than average, but he's getting to the point where all of a sudden there's going to be a noticeable drop in the quality of his play. Forwards and defensemen can adjust their style of play to compensate for slower reflexes. Take a look at an old clip of Chelios and watch him today and you'll see what I mean. Goaltending is all about angles and reflexes. He'll always be good with angles, but the reflexes will start to go, and when they do, they'll go really quickly.

He WAS a great goalie.

Now he has to be babied because of his groin. Never plays back to back games. Does not play after a flight of over 3 hours.

What's he going to do during the playoffs? There is a lot of travel going on then.

Dum Dum (as I like to call him) is one of the biggest divers in the league.

I don't know if he has what it takes to lead the Wings to another Cup or not. I am surprised he is still playing. I thought for sure by the 5th or 6th game of the season he would be out because of his groin.

Hopefull he will help the Wings win another Cup this season then he will bow out gracefully.

He retired once, and he should have stayed retired. My NHL doesn't include athletes over 40. It makes it look like anyone could play when the opposite is true and the league is trying to build respect.

He is often injured, can't play a full season, and will easily be a non factor in the playoffs with more travel and heavier schedule. Only player I have seen skate away from an Olympic semi finals game warm up looking in great shape and refuse to play.

Hasek is definitely old...there is no mistaking that. However he is still a good goalie. Im a die-hard Wings fan so of course Im going to like him. One thing I dont like is the fact he pulled a Michael Jordan of hockey. Retired...then comes back. Not to mention he is always injured.

I think Dom is a great goalie.....for his age. He was one of the best a few years ago, but he is slipping now. I play goalie for my high school, and people say that I play like him, so ever since I was little, I loved him. His style is amazing, and I don't get how the heck he makes some of the saves he makes. for that reason, I still think he is a good goalie, but not as good as he was before.

um ok vgordon....i dont know what sport your watching, but Hasek doesnt play for Chicago you idiot!

i think he is amazing, for his age, he was a lot better a few years ago, but he is still one of the best between the pipes today. but he should probably call it quits some time in the next few years, if the wings still have ozzy he will fill Haseks skates pretty good, i feel just as comfortable with him in net.

go redwings!!!!!!!!
