She is 7. She does Judo but I want her to try another sport. She doesn't seem to want to do any specific sport. Gymnastics looks good but it is expensive, about $12.50 for a one hour class. Are Gymnastics good for girls any thoughts about it?

Mandy I don't think she understands what Gymnastics is all about. I don't want to push her but I want her to try different things. Also its not like she won't still have plenty of time for homework, cartoons and video games.

$12.50 for an hour long class really isn't too bad these days. Most dance and gymnastics classes in my area (Denver) run about $60 a week, for 2 classes. Also, I think gymnastics is a fun sport for young girls, and I loved it when I was a kid. However, if she doesn't seem to express an interest in it, you're better off just letting her stick with judo for now. Sooner or later she will develop an interest in another sport and you can pursue that, rather than waste money on something your daughter doesn't want to do.

Gymnastics is iffy. You either excel or you don't. If you don't you usually don''t fit in well. I did gymnastics for 7 years because I was a wild kid and loved bounding around on things. In addition to that I also did springboard diving, running and played violin. Gymnastics wasn't my life. I just see it as becoming such an anorexic sport- especially since the girls are so competitive with how their bodies look in their leotards. If she hasn't shown interest in it, I wouldn't push it. What about soccer? You can practice it so much more- have fun, learnn how to be on a team, etc. Or basketball? While the public schools don't offer teams, the catholic schools do. My stepdaughter has been involved in both basketball and soccer since 2nd grade. A LOT cheaper too. The parents are also more laid back. Which would you rather do- be stuck in a smelly gym or outdoors in a nice park watching your daughter play soccer?! Also, soccer can go so much farther- i.e. she can play it in high school with a team rather than going to school and then having to spend 3 hours in a gym practicign her routines....I dunno. While I liked the sport it doesn't have much potential for a future. Just my two cents :-)

Defiantly sign your daughter up for gymnastics. I was about 6 when my mom signed me up, I'm now a level 10. She may not show interest in it right away or even at all but in tiny tumbler classes or gym kid classes they're not always doing gymnastics. Usually the coaches set up obstacle courses or games for the kids. Your daughter would have tons of fun and meet great frinds.

well it depends. i think you should wait untill she devellops interist in a sport.i would sign here up for a "free trial class" most gyms have this.or just ask they all wil agrea to give her a trial.if she likes it and has fun continue.DO NOT FORCE her to do it.if the girls get forced to do anything they dont want to do they will hate it,and start to have less care for you.pluss all of the girls in my gymnastics class who are forced into doing any sport will purpasly take down the team.

yes i understand that gymnastics is expensive.so in this case you should wait untill she is older so then she will have more wnat in a sport. but if you wait that will save you 1000s of dollars of all the months were she is doing it because she is bord and wants something to do.if this is the case then you should sign here up for an insterment, dance,or anyactivity.let her have friends over to have fun together.

hope that i could help you.(by the way i think any kid/teen will like gymnastics)

If she is interested in Judo support her. Do not sign her up for gymnastics unless she expresses and interest in it. If you sigh her up and she doesn't like it or is interested in it then you will have a losing battle on your hands. You will have thrown your money away and won't have it to sign her up the activity that she likes. ask her what her friends are doing (softball, little league, soccer, gymnastics, swimming etc).

it will all be up to your daughter. many girls do enjoy gymnastics because its fun and you make lots of friends. gymnastics is a tough sport but it is easier on the girls when they are in a non-competitive gym (you should send your daughter to one of them) as the older they get, the more they dont like it because it gets too hard. just consider that. good luck.i have always wanted to be a gymnast but i have seen so many documentaries about the pain they go through (including the price) so i dont.

YES!
Gymnastics is a wonderful sport that enhances balance, strength, and helps improve other sports skills. 12.50 for a 1 hour class is a great bargain! My classes are an hour too. I think gymnastics is an awesome sport, and she should try it.

Don't listen to these losers. They don't understand the world of competition. I can't help you, in terms of where to take her because I know nothing about it. I will tell you though, that this is a good move on your part. Her growing up, even if you push this on her, will realize the lifestyle and health that a sport will bring. And about the olympics... the only way she'll make it is if she wants to do it. A good program will help, but nobody makes it in a sport that they don't like. Good Luck!!

Yes, you should, but try to sign up at up place that would not make fun of her if she wasnt the best at it. Because my mom payed for it and i looked up where i should go. Plus gymnastics would probably gain her more strength.
