Well, thankfully there isn't anything there to destroy...
Potentially, it could be a forwarding point to solar system exploration (as i assume by europe, you mean europa) which could be a significant advantage and cost effective "port". It has gravitiy and although non-inhabitable, an atmosphere... which means colonization would just require materials from earth which would limit its size, but not its functionality. Now if we could just stop all the tribal warfare on earth and concentrate those funds/energies on exploration.

I envision two possible and realistic scenarios for Mars.
1) A giant planetary laboratory much like what Antarctica is today. Which of course would lead to major science departments from Universities relocating there skyrocketing tuition.
2) A giant prison colony where earth would dump it's criminal and unwanted members of the society to work on mines, much like Australia was in the 18th century. Which of course would lead in a few hundred years to Mars' independence from Earth's imperial rule.
edit: We should not forget of course that there is a third and come to think of it even more plausible scenario. Because of harsh conditions involving space travel and radiation on Mars almost all of the planetary expeditions would most likely be carried by machines. Even the colonies would be that of machine cities. These machines have to be highly intelligent and autonomous, as demonstrated by the Mars Rovers, with AI and adaptability capabilities. The lack of human oversight may spawn an evolutionary explosion in the machines on Mars which of course can develop a distinct Martian-machine civilization at very rapid time scales. Then they will return to Earth and beat the crap of their parents (humans). Hmm... too much BattleStar Galactica. I should stop here.

Mars is the chocolate bar right?
Could it be transformed into a giant spaceship?
why not??! It definitely will break the world record. I wont mind a giant chocolate space ship, am sure it can feed hordes of humans.
Shd we experiment by... before Sun burns it?
It is common knowledge that chocolate melts at ard 37 deg celsius. Planting living things on choc... if you leave it in the open, some mould or bacteria will surely grow on it. No joke.
Bridge towards Europe?
Definitely! With globalisation, Mars choc can certaintly be marketed worldwide, not just Europe!

im in a scholars colloqium at college of maryland, and my professor works for NASA and reported that there is alot of examine being executed approximately terraforming mars. that's basically manipulating the ambience to act like earths so as that finally people would be waiting to stroll around without area equipment or something. extra realistically, individuals are meant to attain mars via 2020, yet no date is desperate for colonies or everlasting existence on mars (in all likelihood yet another 50 years). additionally this date could no longer ensue via fact the two applicants for president will in all likelihood decrease nasa investment... save questioning approximately area!

Mars will be a novelty that we explore. We can't turn the whole planet into a place to live. It's a very hostile place. Even if we could, we''d have to live deep in the planet or behind very robust shielding. It has no magnetic field so it's constantly whacked by radiation.
