Was our country founded by hypocrites? They proclaimed these great ideologies but did they REALLY practice them?
This country was founded with the help of FREE slave labor. Were we really the land of the free, the home of the brave where all men are created equal?

When the slaves were "set free" they were promised compensation for their free labor but what the got instead was another 100yrs of good ole white american terrorism.

Meanwhile, the white immigrants were welcomed into this country with more rights than the newly freed slaves. Descendants of these immigrants claim their ancestors came here and had to work just as hard. How could it be when on arrival, they had more rights than the blacks who were already here centuries before them?

If the US as a nation can't officially acknowledge it's past crimes against humanity, how can they so easily judge others for crimes against humanity?

Can we ever rid our "democracy" of this hypocrisy?

I don't think America will ever get on slavery. Even just reading some of the answers here, some feel as Black people should just get over and forget it ever happened and that we are holding on to the past.

So how do I get over the racist mentality that is such a part of American culture? How do I get over the fact that many people will judge me and find me lacking just because my skin is too dark for their taste? How do I get over that just because my eyes are not blue and my hair not blonde and straight that I am deemed unpretty????

You act as if we are not being oppressed anymore and that because whites and blacks do date that there is no oppression and we are all treated fairly. When this is not the case. If you are not a Black person you cannot imagine the pain, suffering that we still go through. I will remind that it was only 50 years ago that we were in a fight to be treated as equals and have seats on a public bus, clean water fountains and be able to eat a table up front in a resturant.

Although it may not be you directly oppressing the Black community, it does still happen. Don't say it doesn't unless you have experienced being Black.

Since the statement was said just pay us so we can shut up, didn't America pay the Jews money for an event that America had nothing to do with? The Holocaust victims recieved thousands of dollars for the wrong done to them by America, yet descendants of slaves and slaves recieved nothing for a wrong done to them by America.

Great question.

Too bad the shmucks who demand people to "get over" slavery will never understand the impact that it had on blacks. It impacted them as well, except they benefited from it. Of course they never see it that way.

They're always quick to point out that they weren't there, so it shouldn't matter. Good for you, but guess who was there? The ancestors of many blacks in America who were forced into centuries of poverty because of it. It matters to us.

It matters to us that we have to work twice as hard as you to just to be on the same level of equality.

It matters to us that people are always going to see a "black" person before a "person" in this country.

It matters to us that people think we're all ignorant and poor because we whine to much.

It matters to us.

It. Matters.

Get over that.

Not to be disrespectful, but why can't we get over something that happened over a hundred years ago? I mean, is anyone alive today a former slave or slave owner? I don't think so. Did it happen? Yes it did. Are we proud of it? No we are not but it is dwelling in the past that prevents us from moving forward. I think blacks and whites are equal. We all have the same opportunities. There are alot of middle class and wealthy blacks now who chose to "get over it". The blacks who are successful get dissed by other blacks for not being black enough as if to say that blacks are supposed to stay poor and impoverished. Do you see my point? We need to move forward and stop with all this living in the past stuff.

White people are quick to say get over slavery, but let something have an effect on them and the whole world has to mourn. Why not just ask the Jewish to get over the Holocaust or the Cherokees to get over the Trail of Tears? That's just as crazy as asking us to get over our heritage and culture. If the stock market crashes today, most of you will be jumping out of windows tonight. Most of us are used to rough times, thanks to most of you.

Can blacks participate in terrorism too? Who gets to be the last immigrant? Can we all be typecast? Must I be judged by the mistakes of those whose skin is colored similar to mine but who *you* might say founded this country? In other words, because they may be seen as hypocrites, must I therefore also be a hypocrite? Is that not also hypocrisy? Typecasting? I wish not to be so judged by my skin color, any more than you do. Please help me make peace, among us, as a first step toward ridding our "democracy" of this "hypocrisy"!

dont hold your breath dude. just try to be a better person yourself and strive to be the best you can be. just last night this white dude came to the southside of chicago from wealthy downtown to buy drugs. the dudes was like oh ok now that you need drugs you are coming to our neighborhood but i bet if we come to your neighborhood you will be the one calling the cops. they beat the guy to a pulp and ran off. dude might be crippled for life now. not that i advocate violence but sometimes white folk make it hard for black folk to be civil to em.
