I have seen it on TV shows and movies and just wondered if it was a real thing or it's all just fake.

Thanks for answering if anyone knows!

Yes it's true
they just got a small group working with the local morgue that were taking body parts from the dead and selling them for research too.

It is a real thing, just like anyone stealing antiquities. There is a market for everything. About a year ago there was a case ofa kidney being sold. The fences for these products are in both developed and undeveloped countries. The donors are usually from undeveloped counties who sell what parts they can for family benifits. Many bodies have been exhumed that had been reported to contain less than the amount of organs they should have, and done without family permission or knowledge.

It's an urban legend. You can find stories like that, and explanations of them at
http://www.snopes.com
That's the best site I know for investigating urban legends, they're very thorough...I am guessing that you are talking about the thing where a guy wakes up in a bathtub full of ice to find out that his kidney has been stolen.
Sometimes people will sell the organs of deceased relatives to someone who is a match, but I don't think that's really legal in the us, and you would have to have a whole lot of money to pay off everyone who would need to be paid off in a situation like that.....

yes it is real. Google it and you will discover that over the past 2 years they have even indicted companies for it (I don't recall the name, but they were selling organs for transplants from infected bodies that they "took" and weren't authorized to). It isn't practiced as much as it was in the "old days" when there were true grave robbers whether it was for organs, parts, or the jewelry people wore, but it has and still does to some extent exist!

apparently big in China too: http://en.epochtimes.com/211,111,,1.html

YES YOU WILL KNOW IF YOU DO WHAT I SAID AND GOOGLE IT!!!! IT IS TRUE. THOSE SAYING 'URBAN LEGEND' ARE WRONG (And/or young)

What I have heard of and there have been trials for this is, coroners and such are taking part from people who are dead of course and selling them to another person like tissue and organ banks and making a bit of money off of them. They never tell the persons family and it is not legal. There was a story about it in USA Today a month or two back. You can look into their archives I'm sure and find the article.

Most of the stories you here are urban legends.

It turns out, there are very few doctors (at least in the US and much of Europe) that are willing to take on black market organs. Sure, there are some, but it's more rare than the urban legends would have you believe.

In some bad areas perhaps, I have heard the chinese mafia does such things...but it's probably not so common. You know how valuable organs are? Very! One completely harvested human body could buy you a small house!

You ever wonder what people would pay to have a vital organ replaced? If it meant life/death?

It is not fake. China sells organs in medical journals while the prisoner they take it from is still living, and then when someone buys it, they kill the prisoner. That way the organ is nice and fresh. Someday it could be you or me. www.infowars.com
