I agree that your friend should be able to do something, maybe she has enough evidence to get a restraining order. I think there are so many laws out there to protect the rights of the offender, that sometimes we don't think about protecting the victim. Look on the positive side, men who are abusive usually show a pattern of abusive behaviors in all of their relationships, so eventually his luck will run out and he will get caught and punished.

If there is proof you may be able to! By proof I mean hard evidence. Otherwise it's one person's word against another. The reason that is hard to measure is because some things affect people differently. The court is probably thinking what everyonw else does..if he's abusive : GET AWAY FROM IT! If you put up with it - that's a stupid choice on your part. No offense (just being honest).

She can sue the guy in civil court for emotional distress. That will make the guy pay. I cannot imagine the evidence would be anything but a bunch of babbling shrinks in a criminal prosecution. Although some emotional abuse cases might include charges of false imprisonment or even kidnapping if that severe. Her best bet is to make him pay in civil court.

No, as adults we can leave the situation.
Kids have a much harder time leaving and the emotional abuse has been going on for so long they are just used to it.
Adults can leave at any given time, they are handed to them whatever they take. No way would I put up with abuse.

No physical marks is hard to prosecute. Abuse should be punishable, unfortunately adults lie to get back at each other and it can't be proven.

Well in this case , just ignore her for two weeks and if no reaction from her , this means she is not in your world, and as far the world is too huge with 6 bilions breathing every second.. look for another one , love to live and let the others live to love.

yes it ought to be punishable by law... and if it can be proven (witnesses), then it IS punishable.
i was abused by my father growing up -- i have post traumatic stress disorder 35 years later...
i am left to cope with it... and i have done well; however, there are those out there who don't survive.
i woul dsuggest that your friend finds a counselor or therapist to teach her coping skills and to get her self-esteem in order... she deserves help!
hugz to you and your friend, hon!

that would be great but everyone would be in jail or owe some sort of money to people for the abuse suffered. something needs to change.
