A SARI - is an outer garment worn chiefly by women of India and Pakistan, consisting of a length of lightweight cloth with one end wrapped about the waist to form a skirt and the other draped over the shoulder or covering the head. It is also spelt as SAREE. The garment is known by different names in various Indian languages; in Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Gujarati and Marathi, it is known as sārī; in Bengali as shaṛī; in Kannada as seere; Telugu as 'cheera' or 'chira'; and in Tamil as podavai.
The sari is a very long strip of unstitched cloth, ranging from five to nine yards in length, which can be draped in various styles. The most common style is for the sari to be wrapped around the waist, with one end then draped over the shoulder. The sari is usually worn over a petticoat (called lehnga/ghagra in northern India and pavada/pavadai in the south), with a low-cut, short-sleeved, midriff-baring blouse known as a choli forming the upper garment. The upper blouse like garment is called "Ravika" in Telugu. The cropped design of the choli is just as well, for the voluminous folds of the sari can be stifling in the sultry South Asian weather. Office dress codes, however, prohibit cropped, sleeveless cholis; similarly, women in the armed forces, when wearing a sari uniform, don a half-sleeve shirt tucked in at the waist.
The most common style of draping the sari is wrapped around the waist, then one end is draped over the shoulder. However, the sari can be draped in several different styles, though some styles do require a sari of a particular length or form.
While an international image of the 'modern style' sari may have been popularised by airline stewardesses, each region in the Indian subcontinent has developed, over the centuries, its own unique sari style. Following are the well known varieties, distinct on the basis of fabric, weaving style or motif-

Sari is an Indian Dress for Women. Sarong is the Dress worn in Malaysia and Myanmar.
Some one who did not know the difference mixed up the Usage!
When his mistake was pointed out he said
"I an Sorry I was So Wrong". [if you missed the rhyme you miss the point - Sorry & Sari; So Wrong & Sarong]
