In the first 12 months of life babies grow so much. They are expected to double their birth weight between 4 and 6 months. They are constantly having growth spurts. Usually when they are having a growth spurt you can tell because they constantly want to eat, roughly every 2-3 hours. Remember, their stomachs are the same size as their fists. That's not a lot of capacity for food and when you're growing you need that food for both physical and mental development.

It is perfectly normal for babies to be chunky, unless your doctor says there is something wrong with your baby and I suspect your doctor hasn't. If you are concerned call his/her office and ask.

Keep feeding him breast milk or formula, babies continue to drink breast milk and formula for about a year; it is their main source of nutrition. Do not feed the baby any solids until the doctor clears you to do so. A good doctor will prescribe you a feeding schedule when your baby is ready.

Lastly, don't worry. I am sure your baby is perfectly healthy.

I would add water inbetween feedings. That might satisfy the baby a little. Besides getting an infant used to water helps with a toddler and water and not pop, chocolate milk and kool-aid. All bad choices. At 3 months I would also ask the dr about starting on some rice cereal. Might help fill the baby up too.

it quite is honestly very properly if he's feeding each 2 hours! My son, now 3 and a a million/2 and nevertheless nursing, used to feed each 2 hours (virtually to the minute, day and nighttime) till he replaced into approximately 9 months previous (from approximately 2 months on). i'm uncertain if a number of it ended up being purely habbit, yet he replaced into continuously very lively and is not any longer fat now (not at all replaced into) and is as healthful as a horse. I had extremely some Drs tell me I had to area out the nursing to a minimum of each 3 hours (for no genuine reason), yet I gave up in this after some tries as his crying replaced into inconsolable, different than to nurse, and this led to me to be very disillusioned too. So, I pronounced as the beautiful LaLeeche human beings and replaced into reassured it quite is usual, so i did no longer subject approximately his nursing frequency and did no longer look lower back. good luck with the nursing and be happy which you have become 6 hours sleep each and each nighttime! I too now have a three month previous (woman) who's nursing, yet in assessment to her brother is greater like various 3 (or so) hours, so purely relax and be proud which you're giving your son one among those superb start to life!

Make sure he's really hungry when you feed him, sometimes they want toher things like to play or are overstimulated but will take a bottle/breast because it calms them. And try giving juice and water as well, he may just be thirsty and water is empty calories, but either way I think your baby is probably fine unless your doc says otherwise, dont listen to what other people tell you, every baby is different. Just feed him healthy stuff not junk.

Don't worry about a weight problem. He's only 3 months, they grow a lot, so keep feeding him.

Make sure that he is getting nourishing foods - not just cheerios and stuff like that. He is not ready for really solid foods like meat and fish, but look on line for suggestions for filling and nourishing foods. If you are nursing, let him nurse for as long as he wants (within reason!!) so that he is good and full after the meal.

Chunky infants are much more likely to be heavy children and have problems with weight all their lives. The body, in infancy, is making fat cells for storage for the later years. After infancy, the body stops making fat cells. So if, in infancy, the child is encouraged to eat and eat, and is making those fat cells, there will be more per square inch of body than for a person who did not get over-fed in infancy.

I am very Glad that you are concerned. You could be saving your baby a lifetime of struggle with overweight.

They need to bulk up during the early months, because as soon as they start crawling and moving, they'll burn all that weight off... REALLY!

If he's hungry, feed him!!
