Genetically we are on average 80% "African" so I would go as far as to call Africans our cousins on the genetic level. American more of a culture, so culturally we are American. Hence the term African-American

I also want to make it clear that American culture is not "white culture", American culture has tons of African American influences, so this is literially our culture in a weird way. AA's alliegence will be with America since we had such a long history here. We may look the same but the similarities end there. I still wish the best for my cousins in the motherland.

More American if you are using the PC term for black people in America. More African if you are talking about people born in Africa who moved to the US and just got their citizenship (or something) I don't like the term since it's ridiculous to call every black person in the US African American because you could be referring to a person from Jamaica or any other place where there are black people besides Africa. They may all have roots in Africa but that could have been hundreds of years ago. In that case, I suppose I'm European-American. But if all people originally came from Africa, why can't I be called African-American too?

I really don't know where we are supposed to draw the line.

Quit being PC. The term is black, not african american (not all blacks have a lot of african ancestry) and if you're born here, you're an American. Simple as that.

I would say American. Eventhough African is in our blood, most of us don't practice our African culture. We act just as American as a white American would act.

You're only "AFRICAN AMERICAN" if you were born IN Africa. White people that were born in Africa and moved to America are "AFRICAN AMERICAN." So it depends on the person.
